TAL Attends Vision 2025 Rally
7/31/2003
TAL members Angelia O'Dell, Clint Gallatin, Albro
Daniel, Roger Bloxham, Lynn Atherton and Jimmy Cook attended the
Vision 2025 Rally, organized by the Tulsa County Coalition, on
Tuesday, July 29th at Wright Elementary School.
Prior to the rally, it was understood that the
Coalition is entirely opposed to the idea of a proposed 1¢ sales
tax increase. However, upon attending the event, some members
of TAL heard a different message: one indicating that now is not the
best time for an increase, but to go ahead with the project once the
economy improves.
A former local politician wanted to talk about
how it would just take money from the county government and empower
the city government. Jimmy Cook was chosen to ask a
question. He wanted to know why people couldn't see that this
is really an indication of the failure of large government and that
looking to the government for solutions would never work. The
facilitator gave the floor to someone else when Jimmy tried to say
that government solutions never work because government doesn't have
anything to offer; it can only take.
While walking around, Jimmy was interviewed by a
reporter from KJRH, Channel 2. The segment that was aired on
the 10 O'Clock News was the part when he made the comment that he
didn't want Boeing and American Airlines to extort money from Tulsa
County residents.
Despite
the "wait until later" tone of the rally, it was yet
another opportunity to acquire ballot access signatures (thanks to
Angelia and Albro), find people willing to take ballot access
petitions with them (thanks to Lynn), and spread the message of
Libertarianism, including Roger's comment that "government is a
monster that must not be fed anymore; it must be allowed to
starve."
