Edible Cells 2002

Warning! There are many pictures on this page and therefore, will take quite a bit of time to load. Be patient and you'll be rewarded by seeing the class hard at work.

We've been studying life science and comparing living things.

Animal Cell Plant Cell

The class has been working diligently learning about plant and animal cells. Each child has drawn cells using traditional materials and has also used the computer's paint program. Check out these wonderful drawings!

Next, we moved on to the computer and used a paint program.

Here are our computer drawings.

Coming as soon as Mrs. H. remembers to bring them home! ;)

On October 11th, we made our own animal cell models using jello and assorted candies. Many thanks to Mrs. Brady, Mrs. Re, Mrs. Randell, Mrs. Faverio, and Mrs. Riccardo for helping us. The cytoplasm was represented by jello. Gumballs were used for the cell nucleus. We used sprinkles for the ribosomes and a variety of other "goodies" for the remaining organelles.

On Tuesday, October 15th, we're planning a CELL-ebration. The challenge is to create an edible model of either a plant cell or an animal cell. I wonder what choices the children will make to represent the various parts of each cell. Check here to see the results.
