Records that are available in County Clerk's Office: Marriage, land, probate, from 1861, divorce from 1900.

Getting to Bland County:

From the south or north, Interstate 77 runs about thirty miles bisects the County with exits at Rocky Gap, Bastian, Bland. For scenic travel, Virginia State Roads 42 and 61 are available. VA State Road 42 is accessable off of VA State Road 100 at Poplar Hill, Giles County, and runs westerly along Wolf Creek to Bland. VA State Road 61 traverses Bland County from Tazewell , VA (Tazewell County) to Narrows, VA (Giles County. 12 miles north of Wytheville, by I-77 or U.S. Routes 21 or 52, Bland County was formed in 1861 from parts of Giles, Wythe and Tazewell Counties. Named in honor of Richard Bland, the prominent Revolutionary period Virginia patriot, settlement of the area began about the time of the Revolution. Situated almost on the West Virginia border, Bland felt divided loyalties during the Civil War. In 1864, a skirmish was fought at Rocky Gap in connection with a raid on the Virginia and Tennessee railroad. The county seat of Bland County is the town of Bland.
