Technical Resources Web site - for Rock Eagle 4H Center,
Eatonton GA.
Rock Eagle IT Documentation pages
This site required a rustic camp motif. The purpose of the site is to provide
a repository of information for technical data essential to maintaining
the Center's network , and inhouse software development.
It’s sister site "Rock
Eagle Tech Support" which is used for liason with the 159 georgia counties,
takes advantage of the quick templating and ActivieX features of Microsoft
Front Page to provide a feature rich environment in a short period of time.
Quick, useful, and cheap. FrontPage 98. 1/month, 2000.
Flash animated splash screen and navigation tool - for Transportation Solutions Inc., Stockbridge, Ga. (preliminary test) A combination of raster / 3D animation and flash / 2D animation is used in this site for the splash screen. Also some procedural animation of the navigation menu allows maximum animation with minumum file size.
Promotional Architectural Animation - for Church
of the Hills of Alpharetta GA. Produced fly-by animations including
existing and proposed construction, used in fund raising. Project entailed
modeling and texture mapping from civil site contours drawings and architectural
drawings in Autocad format. Gathered research via video at the site, collaborated
with architects on design changes, managed client engagement. 3D Studio
Max 4.0, Autocad 14. 3/months, 1999.
3D Design / Software Analyst - for ATCO Inc., Atco is an OEM of robots for the vinyl window industry. I designed intricate fixtures and jigs in 3D and produced dimensioned drawings for fabrication. The extremely fast pace of change in design criterion made this job particularly intensive and very well suited to the features of Adesk=s AMechanical Desktop.@ I also tested, installed, and documented custom operating software for the robots in an NT 4.0 environment, using a DeviceNet I/O and SteepleChase man/machine interface. The set up for this machine is very extensive requiring the calibration of encoders and security protocols, all of which were documented by me in AWord@. ACAD14, Mechanical Desktop 3.0, Access, Excel, Steeple Chase, Device Net, 1998-1999
3D Design - Northrop Grumman, a military contractor doing a project for the Navy SEALs. I was responsible for redesigning the control console of a mini submarine for space and ergonomics considerations. I Interviewed SEAL's coordinators for requirements, did 3D redesign of console for buildability, used acad 12 and ADE. Interface with Computervision 3D. All "one of a kind" design, complex mounts on articulating arms, high impact G-force design, tight space requirements. ACAD 12, ADE, 1996
3D Designer - Modelmation, a 3D computer animation company located in Atlanta, GA. I built (60) 3D models in one month for the Siemens Corp. These included a desk design, some industrial control cabinets, and mechanical equipment like valves and regulators. We used these models to create an automatic quote generator for the sales team. The client and salesman interactively create a 3D system on screen and click the menu to get the price. ACAD, Micrographics Designer, Photoshop 1994
Documentation Service Provider - Du Pont De Nemours
& Co. World Parts Center, Atlanta, GA. For several years I provided
a comprehensive documentation service for this supplier of medical equipment,
from concept through delivery of bluelines. Their needs center around getting
details via an interview with an engineer, and then creating whatever documentation
is required for the project. Typically, one of a kind testing equipment
for medical instrumentation, Isometric, 3D, exploded and cutaway views.

Company Logo - for T.S.i. Logistics. (see web above) , the company requested a logo that incorporated a meteor in it’s image in order to complement their premier product called “iMpact”. Marketing wanted a sophisticated, clean, quiet look compared to their red and black predecessor. I was able to juggle widely varied and sometimes conflicting requirements from different departments, to create an image that all could support.
Company Logo - for Repro Products., Repro’s previous image included board drafting instruments in a 2D format. I retained those images for continuity, but rendered them in 3D to bring them up to date.
Company Logo - for Rowell Design., The graphic combines; the subliminal element of a clock face to imply timeliness; the retro / mechanical / industrial age element of a rotary dial or needle guage; and the letter “k” again representing hands on a dial.
Design Studies – at The
Portfolio Center., I studied here in 1987, all aspects of graphic design,
from typography to art direction. I attained honors in my class and won
awards for my work. The pieces from my
web site that were done here are; the Dracula book cover, wine
labels, and the “Read” poster.
VB Programmer / Analyst - for Rock Eagle 4H Center, reservations and payables packages. Added features and served as business analyst for new features. Conducted meetings and interviews of users. Wrote documentation packages. Picked up this project from previous programmer.
GIS Mapping / Lisp Programmer / Analyst - for The Southern
Company Co., Application Development Dept. I was part of a team who maintained
two in house Automated Facilities Management and Mapping packages (AMC
/ FAMS). These packages are Autocad based and use a combination of Lisp,
Visual Basic, and Dbase 3 code to map power grids and equipment. I worked
primarily on the Lisp portion of these projects, repairing bugs and adding
new commands, testing and writing documentation. I facilitated meetings
gathering user requirements, defining scope, and documenting
consensus. Other projects include a survey data, import
and link interface for the Land Department providing database linkage to
external survey data stored in Access, that Softdesk couldn't provide.
(CAFSx). I felt challenged and stimulated by this assignment. I'll seek
more like it in the future. ACADmap 14, ADE, Softdesk, VB5, Autolisp, NT4.0,
1997-98
GIS Mapping / Property easements Analyst - for Georgia Power Co., Land Engineering Dept. My expertise in graphics eased the transition to hybrid vector / raster design. Using aerial photography and Softdesk, provided an avenue for creating property maps for "right of way" (ROW) purchase. Also on this assignment, I was responsible for creating analysis graphics using GIS to report on congressional districts, transmission grids, maintenance regions, etc. combining databases with graphic information from CAD and other sources using Lisp customization, database linking and 3D features. ACAD 13, ADE, Softdesk Civil, ArcView GIS, ARCinfo, Autolisp, NT4.0, 1997
Database / CAD Analyst - Humboldt Wedag, a US division of a German cement kiln company, located in Atlanta, GA, that is one of the leading international companies in that industry. I assisted with plants in China, Oman, Trinidad and Utah. By linking hundreds of Acad motor schematics to Access and Foxpro databases, I was able to quickly produce drawings rich in information. Entire sets were run in a batch over night for instant reporting on database updates. I became versed in the use of European electrical symbols. ACAD 12,13, Cadlynx, 1995-96
Programming / Electrical Design / CAD - C.W. Nofsinger Co., a division of Burns & McDonnell Co. in Kansas City, Mo. I was able to shorten the duration of this project by incorporating batch processes that modified groups of drawings collectively. This proved especially valuable on the hundreds of PLC address sheets that, this highly automated project, required. 1991-92
CAD Manager / Analyst / Mechanical Design / Programming
- Nordson Corp. Specials department, Duluth, GA. Wrote a parametric design
program worth $300,000 per year in design time (autolisp). Also created
a quote package that integrates ACAD, Lotus 1-2-3, and Word Perfect to
cut Engineer's proposal time from days to hours. Had rapid rate increases
and promotions. Recruited, trained and motivated top CAD personnel. Created
new menus and macros for operator efficiency and trained operators in their
use. Created title block routines and formats. I was always the first choice
as designer for those engineers doing "non standard" designs and in widely
varied disciplines from electrical and mechanical to 3D presentation and
programming. Autocad 9 & 10, introduction to Pro-E. 1988-91
Instrumentation CAD Designer - Fischer & Porter Co. in Stone Mountain GA. I designed two water treatment systems for this company's chlorinators. I worked from existing drawings from previous jobs. Intensive design was required on my part as I created loop diagrams from P&ID's. The projects were completed on time and under budget. 1993
Electrical CAD - Eaton Industrial Controls Division, Doraville, GA. I was able to implement some menu enhancements that they are quite proud of. These modifications replace a number of manually typed plotting commands from shells with mouse picks from the menu. 1993
Instrumentation CAD - Ahlstrom Recovery, Atlanta, GA,
instrumentation group. This is a Finnish company. They have the most advanced
lime recovery kilns in the paper business and does retrofits to existing
equipment. I automated thousands of
instrumentation loops and P&ID's. It was a perfect
environment to use batch processing of groups of drawings. They also had
their own advanced lisp programs written in Finland and some expertise
was required to fill in when things fell through the cracks. 1992-93
Electrical Design / CAD - Sandwell Swan & Wooster,
Smyrna, GA, during overflow period. Pulp & paper mill design, loops,
instrumentation, power, control ACAD 10, 1987
Raster to Vector Scanning / Conversion - Control Data's CAD scanning facility. We converted manual drawings to CAD drawings using some of the most expensive and sophisticated vectorization and auto recognition software available at the time. We used automated systems and manual overlay methods for NASA, nuclear power plants and utility trucks. Optigraphics auto-vectorization system. 1986
Intergraph CAD / Civil - Giffel Harte Intergraph mainframe. I had been anxious to get into a CAD system since 1982 so I was fortunate to have this offer of training. The training lasted about 3 months after which their manpower requirements dropped. 1986
Civil design draftsman - Timmerman Engineers. Bert Timmerman is an independent Engineer that did commercial site plans at the time. I did site plans and surveys for warehouses, garages, parts stores etc. Board design, 1985-86
Electrical Designer - Integrated Power Systems DC power control for oil rigs. First experience with PLC's. Extensive ladder logic and wiring diagrams. Complete lightning detection design. Our jobs ranged from oil rigs for PeMex in Mexico, to wineries and locomotives. The ability to learn fast and get along well with people made this a good assignment. Board design, 1984-85
Electrical Designer - Fluor Engineers in Houston. Piping
and electrical design in the oil industry. I became well versed in the
peculiarities of electrical design in hazardous areas. I was 3rd in my
class of 24, in Fluor's in-house electrical design school. Duties included
cable routing, cable tray specs., ladder diagrams and loops, instrumentation
layout from P&ID's, motor starter and power cable sizing and model
building. I also supervised complete layout of underground duct-bank for
electrical conduit. Board design, 1980-83

Repro Products. The only new ACAD dealer to be added to the Atlanta market
in years largely due to my abilities to provide support. Access, Designer,
ADE, Autovision, Accurender, ACAD 13, 1994
Municipal Utilities Mapping - Fitzgerald Water,
Light, and Bond Commission in my hometown of Fitzgerald, GA. I was the
sole draftsman and mapped utilities for highway improvements and city records.
I developed a complete new set of maps for roads, natural gas , water ,
sewers and electrical lines. Most of the utilities weren't recorded except
in the minds of the department supervisors who originally installed them.
They were all retiring and I was brought in to document the systems. I
managed my own work and communicated well with department heads, outside
contractors and engineering firms. Board design, 1978-80
