it happened again
I went to another meeting on Thursday. This time it was for a group of Seattle telecommuters. It was from 5-7. I got to the restaurant at 5:15. I saw no groups that looked like they were who I was supposed to meet with. I saw no signs directing me to the right table. I then asked the host if he knew where our group was meeting. He didn't. He then checked the reservation book. Nothing. So, I sat at the bar and waited. Maybe they weren't there yet, I thought. It turns out that there were only 2 people. I found this out the next day. They were sitting a short distance from where I was. I sat at the bar for 45 minutes, watching the door; waiting.
I quit.
Shock and Awe
I don't know how to feel about this war. My mood changes from minute to minute. I'm glad that the guy will be taken out of power. But, I hate Bush for doing this without the UN's green light.
Missed opportunities
I've been watching a couple of stocks for a few months now. One that I sold a while back. And another that I wanted to buy. Starbucks. It was at 20.. or 21 when I started watching it. It would go up and down. I waited. Now, it's sitting at around 26, I think. Should've jumped in, dammit.
Pixar. Another great company. But, I sold too soon. I got out around 40. Now it's at 56. Unreal! They haven't had a movie out in years. When they DO release a movie, it never goes above 40! Now - 56! wtf??

blog meetup.
I went to the blog meetup last night. I got to Elliott Bay Book Company about an hour early. I browsed around for a bit. Then, I went downstairs to read. I got a cup of coffee, placed myself near the base of the stairs, and put up a "blogger meetup" sign that I had printed out.
I watched for familiar faces. (I knew only a few) But, I didn't see any. I looked around the cafe. But, I didn't see any big groups forming. Nobody approached me after seeing my sign. So, at about 7:30, I finallly just left.
I don't think I'll go to another one. These things are so poorly organized. The last one I went to (the graphic design meetup) had 2 people. Me and one other guy. There were supposed to be TEN!

Damn. You blinked.
I found another stray today. This time, it's a golden retriever mix. Another stupid owner: no i.d. tag; no rabies tag. The poor thing was left in its front yard on this cold, wet day. It easily jumped the short fence... and wound up on my street. I spotted her running around by herself and called her over. (no easy task) She ate a little of my sandwich. And, I was able to coax her into the (fenced) backyard.
I took her picture, and showed it to the vet's office near my house. They didn't recognize her. But, they suggested I bring her in so they could scan her for a microchip. This worked. After a few calls, we finally found a name, address, and phone number.
I called the stupid owner and told her I found a dog with NO TAGs wandering around my street. She acted very nonchalant, as though it happens often. Why do people leave their pets outside if they're just going to escape from their yard every time? And, if they know they're going to get loose, why don't they put tags on them so they can be returned??
"Madeline" is lying on the floor next to me as I type this. Her owner is coming to pick her up in about an hour. Caren, the woman that owns the dog, lives around the corner from me. I plan to chew her out some more when she comes to pick her up. She called me back after my initial call to ask me not to feed her. (too late) She didn't want Madeline coming back to my house if she got loose again. The dog was starving when I found her. I fed her 2 bowls of (probably stale) dog food that I had bought last summer.
Just this morning, I had been thinking to myself: I haven't met, seen, or touched a dawg in a long time. I still want to adopt one of my own. But, I can't afford it. It's sad that the people who do have pets don't even take care of the ones they have. I think I'm a better dog owner than some of the dog owners in my neighborhood.
