I'm sure glad we're spending all this money on commercials about the new $20 bill. Hopefully, they'll work as well as the ads for the Golden Dollars did! (anybody seen any of those in the last 2 years?!)

Problem solved.
Why can't we have a law requiring taxi cab and shuttle drivers to drive more fuel-efficient cars?? If everybody in Mexico City drove a Toyota Prius, they could dramatically reduce their pollution problem.

I have a set of that refrigerator magnet poetry in my kitchen. They have all sorts of themes with each set. And, this theme was "Art". So, I decided to compose some Halloween-themed poems:
--
ok, so I was running out of words on that last one.
|
an electric experiment to create life
see me make him from dust
with every psychedelic instrument
my masterpiece was young & bold
I could be mad
--
observe the black
silhouette of death
feel mean fiery pain
some dead appear here soon
they hear her raw rigid scream
we suffer deeply
who will approach the green miasma
glorious surreal mess
always capture it on film
--
you would say why
do you ask us for a chisel
break us out
--
he ate a dry shard of glass
--
try our purple ink
have a stroke
and throw up
& live no more
--
blue smoke has form
though no shimmer above
--
my wild subject is
an angry white nude model
this empty canvas
if i use drugs
she can perform drunk
then demand sex
--
there in pieces
like soft waste
compose his hard monument
--
ok, so I was running out of words on that last one.

I am the beastmaster.
Today, I finally took another big step in my never-ending battle with the yellow jackets at the LandPhil. Those little bastards. I bought some more expanding foam. And, I bravely sprayed it around the exposed side of their nest entrance. Nobody came out to see what was up. So, I was lucky. I went back outside an hour later to see if there was any activity. And, I only saw 2 bees hovering around looking for the entrance. "I know there was a door around here somewhere!"
I had tried to seal them in (or out) before. But, I only managed to get one side of the crack. I guess I only sprayed that side because that's where they were going in. So, I didn't realize it was open on the other side as well. That is, not until I saw them coming and going from there the next day.
Before I sealed that crack though, I also sprayed foam in the crack around the moulding of my back door. I think that's where a few others had been getting in. Every day, I have been finding 2 or 3 little yellow jacket corpses. And sometimes, I have found a live one or 2 buzzing around the house. But, I couldn't figure out where they might be getting in. So, hopefully the problem is over. Now the only thing that will sting my guests at the Halloween party will be the liquor. ("Lick 'er?! You brought her!")
---
enjoying some free wifi at Third Place Books tonight. And, I'm listening to some blues on their stage. This is a pretty cool place. Lots of places to sit; a big food court; tons of books; a good cafe/bakery. And of course, the free WiFi. What more could anybody ask for?
---
I have an art show coming up on the 1st thursday and friday of November. More details to come; but, I'm part of a group art show called Re:Start. it's at Northwest Work Lofts on Elliott Ave. (at Denny) I'll be showing 1 new painting, one not-so-new painting, and 2 never-shown-before mixed media pieces.

tonight- the bookcrossing meetup. tomorrow, there's Blog and French.
Last night was the Clark meetup. But, I didn't go. The folks at the Dean office wanted a spy to check it out. But, I didn't feel like going down there. I don't think Clark is going to last much longer.
-----
a bday shoutout: Happy Birthday to next-door-neighbor Sandra. She's turning 2 years older than me. Then, I'll be just one year younger in about 45 days.

'President' Bush told the press on Tuesday that he doesn't "have any idea" whether the senior administration officials who blew a CIA operative's cover will ever be found. But if he just asked his staff to sign a legally binding affidavit confirming that they weren't involved, and referred anyone who wouldn't to the FBI, it's possible he could flush out the perpetrators in a day. To date, the President hasn't even discussed this matter with his staf.
We've already done the President's homework for him by writing the affidavit. Now let's show him how easy it is for innocent people to legally declare their innocence. You can sign the affidavit and send it to the President in under a minute by going to:

the pub mixer is tonight. but, i think i'm going to skip it.
theme thursday has a good theme today. but, i don't have a picture for it. yet. The theme is "Grey". or is it "Gray"? anyway. what's greyer than Seattle? well. today it's actually sunny. so, there goes that idea. maybe i'll find something on my way home.
I'm at monkey grind coffee. they get major points for 1) a cool name, 2) a kickass logo, and 3) wifi. oh yeah. wifi. you gotta love the wifi.
i'm discreetly leaving behind a bookcrossing book. one of my 5,000 romance novels. jesus. how am i going to get rid of all these things. Neil thinks I'm littering. but... there's an audience for everything, right?

You can only vote once; but, please vote for all of my pictures! I don't win anything.. or get paid. But, it would be cool to see my work on a soda bottle.
Jones Soda is a local company. I happened to notice their office today when I was down at the Dean office volunteering. (they're right next door to each other)

things that suck about the wifi at Third Place Books:
1- if you want to have some vegan chocolate cake while you surf, make sure they bothered to make some before you go
2- don't show up on Open Mic night. You'll have to listen to a string of gong show rejects (read: ani difranco and john mayer wannabes) as you surf.
3- if the cafe is full (which will be the case on Open Mic night), remember that the wifi signal dies about 10 feet from the edge of the closest table/chair. If you find an available chair in a corner, somewhat close to the cafe, you might just be lucky enough to get a weak, intermittent signal to work for you for about 3 minutes at a time, if you angle your Powerbook just so, and hold your mouth right, and don't cross your legs.

Apple Computer, AAPL - this one is a personal favorite. And it has kicked ass for me over the last year. There are lots of good reasons for getting in on this. But, as a Mac user, perhaps I'm biased.

sometimes it's fun to answer the Friday Five
1. What vehicle do you drive?
a 1994 Saturn SC2
2. How long have you had it?
10 years! In fact, it turns 10 on 10/10. Cool, eh?
3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle?
The headlights. They flip up like a future-mobile. Then they flip over and disappear when you turn them off.
4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle?
The broken sunroof. Or maybe the tiny backseat. Hard to pick just one.
5. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now?
an electric hybrid like the Toyota Prius. And, I'd turn my Saturn into an artcar.

I shook hands with Dr.-Gov. Dean tonight! He leapt out of the car in hand-shaking mode.
"... must... shake ... more ... hands.."

I'm not saying I had anything to do with it or anything. But, the last time I shook hands with a Governor-slash-presidential-candidate, he became our next president. (Clinton '92)
You can thank me next November.
Dean was in town to attend a fundraiser for the Democratic party. He likes this town. I think it's his 2nd most popular place, after Vermont of course.
