The Washington State Caucus is on Sat., Feb. 7th! Make sure to come out and pledge your support for Gov. Dean! If you don't know your caucus location yet, you can look it up by going here and entering your precinct number. (that's printed on your voter registration card)

My own "Wilson." (next-door neighbor, Tyler)

on Friday night, Cat took me to the EMP opening party for the Springsteen exhibit. Great show; excellent photos by Annie Liebovitz; but, they kicked us out at 10. That was a little disappointing. But, Cat promises to take me again another time.

The crowd was tiny. EMP is going downhill fast. They had to lay off over a hundred people last week, I think. Maybe they should re-consider that $20 entrance fee? I bet they'd get more people coming to see the place.

Yahoo! News - Obesity cost taxpayers $39B in 2003

We're getting screwed by the fat people. (65% of americans) This is like when I go to dinner with a big group of people,... and I order my usual - maybe a veggie burger and a coke - and some putz jumps up and decides: "Let's just split the check 10 ways!" That means I get to subsidize the people who ordered the appetizers, the meat entrees, the 3 beers, and the dessert. WTF?!

Today, I lined up a new art show for July at Karma Coffee in Ballard. (the old ballard art walk again.) The owner had been emailing me about doing a show for several months. So, I agreed to a summer showing. The art show list is now up to date. I even took out the old 2003 photo of me.

Don't forget to check out my diva espresso show in West Seattle. Now, thru February!

I did a new flash movie for a client/partner that I work with. Check out the animation on the home page of TechSC.
|

Last night, I went to play team trivia with a few guys at The Old Pequliar. It started out being just John and me. (sitting there, hoping for more players) After our first round got under way, Eric showed up. And, after 2 or 3 rounds, we were joined by 2 more people. So, things are going along fairly well. We're holding our own. It's hard to tell where we stand. But, I can see that we're getting lots of right answers and basically hanging in there.

We miss a few questions here and there. (I thought I knew my 'Fast Times @ Ridgemont High' Trivia a lot better. But, what a great idea for a category.) We almost nailed the whole "Towers" category. They gave us a page of 10 pictures. And, we had to identify the tower. (Eiffel, Petronus, Coit, Tower of Power, Watts, Stratosphere, CN, etc.)

Much later, 2 other folks join us (near the end of the game) to just hang out for a bit. And the totals are announced. A hush falls over the crowd. And, we finally learn that we tied for first placed!

So, he calls the 2 teams up and starts asking the rowdy crowd how we should settle the tie.

Arm wrestle!, some of them shout. "Pyramid," others should. (Pyramid?!) And the trivia-master ultimately decides that we should, in fact, have a human pyramid-athon.

So, our 2 teams both build a 5-person stack of bodies right there in front of the stage. But, this is too simple. We could last forever. 3 sturdy dudes on the bottom row.., and the other 2 of us on the 2nd layer. Not difficult enough. So, the trivia-meister calls for a 6th person to be added! The other team sends a tiny girl to the top of their pyramid. And we slip another person into our 2nd layer. (sending ME, slighty intoxicated, to the top of the pile.)

Again,.. it's fairly simple. Not much of a challenge. Our team is strong, and we're feeling pretty good - like we could go for a while here. And, the crowd is pumped up, cheering, etc.

Suddenly, team 2 over there tries to get fancy. The girl on all fours at the top of their pyramid gets up on her knees and raises her hands.
crowd cheers.
I look over, and I think - 'i can do that.'
So, I raise up on my knees and raise my hands.
the crowd cheers louder.
So, girl on pyramid #2 tries to up the ante.
Slowly, carefully, she STANDS UP.
the crowd goes nuts.
I look over and think. shit. ok. I can do..., uh, attempt... that.
So, then I slowly, carefully, stand up! And, since I'm taller than the other pyramid topper, I place my palms on the ceiling.
the crowd goes even nuttier!
the trivia-meister shouts: "Ok! We have a winner! break 'em down, break 'em down!"

And, team "18%-and-loving-it" walks away with the prize: $90 cash! Woohoo!

After I recoup the $5 entry fee that I had thrown in, divide between our 5 players, (the 6th person declined her winnings. She wasn't really around for the trivia part) and subtract the 12 bucks I paid for a pitcher, I think I left with about 5 or 6 bucks on the plus side.

So, I'm still deciding how to spend the winnings. Perhaps a movie?

a fun night. But, I wish somebody had taken a picture of us. I had left the camera at home, unfortunately.

Today is when the Seattle Deaniacs are leaving for Iowa. I was invited to go along, but I declined. They begged me to go, actually. But, I just can't afford it. Nancie even offered to help me with the ticket and expenses. But,.. I told her I couldn't swing it. I guess it's a good thing I'm not on my way there. I have a cold.. and I'd be pretty miserable in the Des Moines snow right now.

There are about 5 or 6 people going from here. And, I think there are hundreds more coming from around the country. They'll be canvassing and getting the vote out for the Monday night caucus.

i'll get to show some of my paintings starting this sunday. Watch for my work at the West Seattle Diva Espresso. I'll have half polaroid transfers and half paintings. It's a pretty big space. So, i need lots of stuff. I probably won't show my controversial paintings. But, I've got several older ones I can display. the folks on the west side haven't seen my animal stuff. and, i have some ideas for others I need to work on. I'm showing at the west seattle Starbucks in March. wonder if they'll censor me too.

CENSORED

My Ballard ArtWalk show is cancelled. This morning, I was approached by the manager of the Ballard Starbucks, Scott Stinton, and asked to take down my work. He decided that the pieces were "not appropriate." Here's the scoop.

"That's about as ridiculous as I can imagine. Wish I actually went to the place

a msg from H. Dean:

On January 20th, George Bush will deliver his State of the Union address.

Last year, he stood before Congress and the American people and misled the nation. He used that speech to drive us into war with 16 infamous words about Iraq’s plans for developing nuclear weapons–words his administration knew were false before he spoke them.

Today, I sent a message to George Bush telling him what I think about the state of our union. On the day that George Bush delivers his message to Congress, the American people will tell him the truth about the what’s going on in America. Add your voice to that message:

http://www.deanforamerica.com/sotu

The truth is that we’ve lost more than 3 million jobs since Bush took office. He’s given tax cuts to his biggest campaign contributors while our property taxes and college tuitions have gone up. And he’s shortchanged homeland security while spending billions on his unnecessary war in Iraq.

You can tell George Bush that despite his terrible economic record and reckless foreign policy, the state of our union is strong -- and that a new age of participation in our democracy is at hand.

Thousands of Americans are adding their voice, and our comments will be published over the next two weeks at http://www.blogforamerica.com.

Make your voice heard:

get me the fuk out of here. i'm ready to come home! Oh, wait a minute. it was 15 degrees in seattle today. maybe I should rethink this.

hmmm.. Ok - I've decided. getmethefukouttahere. I've definitely reached my saturation point. I tried to find a place to get some takeout tonight. the one Augusta Thai place? CLOSED. The one Augusta Indian place? CLOSED. fuck!! Why does everything close on sunday in this town? (even the goddamn "mark's mocha" coffee shop was closed this morning.)

so, i called a chinese place. whadya know! they're open till 10! thank god. mmmmmm. some good szechuan... or howeverthefukyouspell it.... tofu veggies and sticky rice. damn. that's good eatin'.

hung out with luke and caroline some more tonight. he wasn't bratty; so that was good. and caroline is the cutest kid. she loved my monkey impression. and luke loves that i can imitate all the characters on spongebob squarepants.

it's good to be an uncle.
|

1.3.2004

more snow in seattle. and I'm still stuck here. dammitall.
here's another reason augusta pisses me off - I never get any sleep. last night, i finally started to get a good night sleep (after getting in pretty late).... only to wake up this morning to footsteps on the roof and the roar of a gas-powered leaf blower. my parents' yard-dude was stomping around before 9 a.m. right above my head. thanks.

last night was pretty fun; i hung out with coleman and the kids; luke wasn't a brat. he put on a karate show for us. he's some kind of crazy ass left handed 3 year old power ranger ninja dude. His 1-yr-old sister just stands back and watches with terror as he unleashes his tiny fists of fury on his blow-up punching bag. quite entertaining. even without a glass of wine in me.

then mcdowell and i went downtown for a drink. after a quick beer, we popped next door for some kickass burritos at Nacho Mama's. (what a great name) Then, we wanted to feel really really fucking old. So, we went down the street to a place called the Soul Bar. Average age there: 22. It was frightening. But, fun to do some drinkin and people-watchin.

Sara called my voice mail yesterday. She's back in town and wants to hang out. woohoo.

it's supposed to snow some more next week. So, maybe i'll get to see some. if not, i guess I can always drive to Leavenworth. Looks like they're getting a good bit. And, I haven't been there in a few years.
|

1.2.2004

I'm a...

|

t.t.s.
how does augusta suck? let me count the ways.
there's no Starbucks in the Barnes & Noble. They also don't have a music section. wtf?

--

today, I'm taking the nieces and nephew to see Peter Pan. Should be pretty fun. I think it looks better than Haunted Mansion. And, they didn't want to see The Cat In The Hat.

tonight, I'm going over to Coleman's for a drink. a pre-drink drink, really. After that I'm picking up McDowell to go have a few more beers. Sort of a Christmas tradition. Last time I was here, they had $1 bud light at the Metro coffeehouse. Sure, they don't have Fat Tire, but damn! ... $1 bud light! woohoo!

tomorrow, I'm going to see 'Elf' with Coleman. Even though she's over-stressed, she still forces herself to get away and take a break from it all. I can imagine how somebody with kids would get burned out really fast. Plus, my nephew can be a real pain in the ass. He's not the loving, fun, funny, calm nephew that Cole was. But, maybe it's just because he's at that bratty age. Perhaps it will pass.

And my niece is still in the not-so-sure about me stage. At least she seems to recognize me now, when I see her. But, she still gets anxious if she's not within arms' reach of her momma.

Yesterday, I drove around and tried to find some more places to phoon. But, there's just NOTHING here. I mean, how pathetic is it when the most exciting tourist highlight of your town is a private-white-males-only golf club?
