Versatile Mrs. DeFoor Retires; Gradyites Wish Luck, Happiness

Mrs. DeFoor, one of Grady's best loved teachers, is retiring this year after ten years of service to Grady. She came to Grady in 1947 and has taught Business Law and Community Citizenship ever since. In the past, she has also taught math and foreign Ianguages. In college, she majored In political science an A.B degree, a Master's degree, a degree in education, and one in law. She chose teaching when she graduated wasn't much else for a career woman to do at that time.Mrs. DeFoor, wanted to practice law, but women were not permitted to do so until the 30's.

She loves to travel as well as practice law. When she was young, she left Georgia and went to Nebraska where she spent two years. It was a wonderful experience, and she often thinks of how different the people were there. Year before last, she took an exciting trip to Europe, visiting Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, England, and Switzerland. She loves sports and has always been active in tournament tennis-golf and basketball. She used to go hunting and fishing and loved horseback riding. She loves flowers and nature. She also enjoys reading. The only thing she dislikes is noise and confusion. The thing she likes best about Grady is the students and their attitudes. Only a small percent.age she believes, causes trouble.

DeFoor has always been interested in politics and has held offices in the Georgia and National Association & of Women Lawyers. She was National President of her Social and also Legal Sorority. She has enjoyed association with lawyers because they are very different from teachers. She never wanted to run. for office because she felt unable to take all of the criticism that Politicians must take.

In the future, she would like to travel during winter and spring and to choose what to do with her free hours. She has always wanted to belong to the League of Women Voters, but she has never had time. She thinks she will join now.

Mrs. DeFoor emphasized that the real pleasure in teaching has been the associations with fine boys and girls and fellow teachers.

All Gradyites wish good luck to Mrs. DeFoor, and will remember her always.
