Dear Students,
I would like to welcome all of you to Grady, especially the class of '75.
1 hope that all of us can cooperate to make this Grady's best year ever.
I challenge each one of you to maintain the high standards of academic achievement, spirit, and pride, which have been the trademarks of our school.
A new decade begins bringing with it many changes. Obsolescence falls by the wayside, giving way to progress. Let us work together and make these changes work for the benefit of the student, teacher, and school.
Sincerely,
RHD

(Note: Of the ten high schools on the Grady football schedule in 1970
only two--Carver & Harper--are open in 1998.)
School Policy Repeats Annual Metamorphosis
Changes in school policy comes every year, and this year is no exception.
Last year's schedule and disciplinary system have been revised.
The schedule for this year is as follows:
8:05 - 8:25 - Homeroom
8:30 - 9:25 - 1st period
9:30 - 10:25 - 2nd period
10:30 - 11:25 - 3rd period
11:30 - 1:00 - 4th period and lunch
1:05 - 2:00 - 5th period
2:05 - 3:00 - 6th period
LUNCH SCHEDULE
At 11:30, all classes on the second and third floors will go to lunch first
while the rest of the school goes to 4th period. Then, at 12:30 the lunch
period ends and those who were in 4th period will partake of their midday
repast. At 1:00, the 2nd lunch ends.
On days there are assemblies each period will be shortened to 50 minutes. These assemblies will generally be field after first or second periods.
DETENTION CARDS
Detention is still with us. Those who skip class will be sent to the office
where they will be given a card. After they have done time in detention,
they will be readmitted to the skipped class when the teacher receives the
card. First offense rates the student five days and the second offense carries
a ten day punishment. The third offensewill find the student suspended.
If the student should not report to the detention, suspension shall be his
fate.
ROTC is required for 10th graders. Only a doctor's excuse or permission from the area superintendent will keep the sophomore a civilian. For all 11th and 12th graders, ROTC is optional.
GymnasiumConstruction Closes Lot
There is a new gym in Grady's future. It may not be completed until April
1972, but it is coming; and with it a remodeled old gym.
T & B Builders Inc. were awarded a city contract of $939,193.00 for constructing the "new gym on the practIce field and for remodeling the existing boys' gyrn. Construction has already begun and it is hoped that the gym will be ready for the 1971 basketball season, but it may be completed at a later date.
Work, which was begun several Weeks ago, has necessitated the closing of the student parking lot, but never fear, there is adequate parking on Tenth St. To ensure the closure of both the parking lot and practice field, a fence has been erected around the work area.
Thus far, construction has been limited to erecting the fence, grading the embankment of the practice field, and demolishing the parking area in front of the boys' gym. This area will eventually become a student mail bounded by both gyms.
