Every so often we hear about drugs being sold at Grady. Is this true? The staff of this paper feels that though there may be some peddling of drugs, rumors about the problem have grown out of proportion.
School officials believe the problem is not a very large one because
most students do not buy, make, or take drugs while in school if they do
at all.
The real problem is that wild rumors about drugs gives a school a bad name.
The drug question is not one that is restricted to any one school.
Below is an interview with a former Grady student who dropped out of school at sixteen. and has since started taking drugs. One might have expected this person to be dumb, but he was very articulate. We publish the interview to reveal some of the thinking of a person who admits that he takes drugs.
Question: Have you ever taken drugs?
Answer: Yes.
Question: What kind?
A: Mostly psychedelics, they are the true host of God.
Q: What are psychedelics?
A: The sacred sacraments. They are classified as LSD, Marijuana, Hashish,
Cylacybine, and Mescaline.
Q: Are any habit forming?
A: No.
Q: Why do you take them?
A: I take them because I believe in taking them. I believe it puts one
in the mind of God.
Q: Do you believe In the Christian version of God?
A: To a degree, I actually believe in all religions. I belong to the Neo-American church.
Q: What Is the Neo-American church?
A: It's the church founded by Timothy Leary.
Q: Is it based on a belief In drugs?
A: You don't depend on the drugs. You just use them to find God.
Q: Have you found God?
A: I'm not exactly sure. I'm happy; that's all that matters.
Q: Do you think the Neo-American church will die out?
A: No.
Q: Why not?
A: It's just a conviction I have. All we are asking for is just religious
freedom which this country is supposed to guarantee. Like the Indian church,
the native American church, has received It is allowed to take peyote which
is a psychedelic drug, where as the Neo-American church is not allowed to.
They say the Indians can because they are older, which is like saying the
Catholic church is better than the Protestant church because it is older.
Like in World War II, instead of persecuting the Jews, Hitler could have
just made it a crime to take the sacramental wine, as it's giving alcohol
to minors; if he had just outlawed that (sacramental wine) and made the
penalty 'death, it would have been what this country is doing to the Neo-American
church.
Q: What are they doing?
A: They are not allowing the church to take its sacraments, psychedelic
drugs.
Q: Do you think they do this because they feel It's harmful to minors?
A: No, they do this because they feel it's harmful to the establishment.
Q: Would you say the government controls our lives?
A: Yes, very much so -- especially with television. But the movement is taking over television. At least now you see a sheriff who turns out to be a bad guy.
Q: In what does this movement believe?
A: The basic principles this county was founded on, personal freedom.
Q: How do you obtain your drugs?
A: With money.
Q: What do yon consider the most harmful drug?
A: Methadrine and next possibly alcohol.
Q: Why did you drop out of high school?
A: I don't see any need to get a diploma in a society I don't want any
part of.Q: Are you a dropout from society?
A: No, I dropped into another society.
Q: Do you feel you will ever become an effective member of our society?
A: No, but if they work within their laws I will obey that society. I have no desire to be a member of a society that goes around killing babies.
Q: Do you think It Is right for a person to come to school under the Influence of drugs?
A: It's rather stupid.
Q: After you take marijuana do you have the urging to go higher?
A: No, not really.
Q: Do you think a lot of the effects produced by drugs is psychological?
A: Yes, to a good extent.
Q: What's the difference between the high an alcohol and the high on
marijuana?
A: Alcohol will make you the way you are. If you feel like beating up people normally, you will when you are drunk. Marijuana makes you more aware of the things around you.
Q: Can you buy drugs on the campus of Grady?
A: No, not that I know of.
