Maturity First

For all high school students that have ever been in love there is always in the back of their minds the implications that a "going steady" relationship presents to the world. The majority of our teenagers solve this problem by graduating from high school and entering the adult world of college or business. By doing this they soon realize the responsibilities entailed in marriage and try to broaden their experiences and education to be able to make a success of their home.

A small per centage of our pupils either drop out of school before graduation or immediately following their commencement and walk down the aisle into the arms of their high school steady. By so doing they are simply exchanging' parental care for joint obligations of a home when they have never had the benefit of single enjoyment of life and all it offers. These matrimonial obligations are the most rewarding in our society but they can be more rewarding and fulfilling by a higher education or the maturing experience of living on your own.

Editor's Echo

By Forrest Roberts

"The country is going to the dogs!" "The government is spending entirely too much money!" "Why, in a few years we will be entirely socialists!"

Sound familiar?

It seems today that there are nothing but complaints about the federal government. It spends too much, it does too much, it interfers too much, it has too much control. But where would we be if the government did not have this power?

The food we eat is safe because of the Food and Drug Administration, many of the supplies and facilities present at Grady are here because of Federal Aid to Education. It is safe to fly because of the Federal Aviation Board and a pound of butter is a pound because of the Bureau of Standards. Much of the new downtown connector was paid for by federal money.

Without federal funds and interference I am afraid our lives would be greatly lacking something.

It is important that an equal balance is kept between the state and federal governments but at the same time it should be remembered the benefits that are received from the federal government.

These areas of federal government powers are rarely thought of by the general public while, for the most part, we are all thankful for them.

In the middle of an era that has seen the destructive power of one sided criticism it would do us all good to stop and think before the cry of protest is raised.

Your Vote Will Determine Your Year

Do you realize how important your vote is in the upcoming co-presidential election? The two students, a boy and a girl, who are chosen by the student body will be looked upon as your representatives.

Whatever they do will reflect upon you. Keep in mind not only the honor but the responsibility involved in this office. The candidates must realize this, for they must be willing to sacrifice a great deal of time and energy. The co-presidents spend a lot of time planning dances, assemblies, and pep rallies in order for them to be a successful part of your school year.

When considering your vote, don't make this election a popularity contest. Instead, evaluate the candidates carefully, considering their qualifications as leaders. Listen to their campaign speeches, for although you may think you know them well, you may not know them at all.
