There has been much controversy concerning the United States policy
in Viet Nam. It seems that the citizens in the United States are
divided into three groups; those who continue to support the President's
course, those who feel we should exercise restraint in the conduct
of the war, and those who advocate stepped up action against North
Viet Nam.
The Southerner strongly supports President Johnson's policies concerning Viet Nam. We share his determination to provide maximum support to the U. S. forces in Viet Nam. We have a commitment which we must fulfill. We must stop the aggression of the Viet Cong and the Chinese so that the people of South Viet Nam may have the right to determine their own form of government.
Viet Nam is a topic of great interest around the world. The following is a poll taken by the Southerner. It expresses the opinions and views of several members of Grady's student body.

Frances Alterman--I feel we should be there because it is necessary for us to defend democracy and check communism while we can.
Sarah Glazer--I think that our motives are pretty hazy, but that since we're there we should carry out what we've started.
Carla Silka--Somebody's got to do it and under the circumstances they are doing a remarkable job. We're giving them much needed support.
Cindy Lanford-Something definite should be decided on either an open war or a peace truce should be declared. Cold War is for the birds.
