Grady
High School puts web site on the Map
Finally,
a comprehensive web
page directory of Atlanta's activist organizationsexists!
The site is a part of the
Grady Cyberspace Project, a program of the Henry
W. Grady High School's
Social Studies Department.
This is the cyber-child
of social studies teacher, Lou Sartor, meant to be used as a
research tool listing over 100 Atlanta organizations with links
to their respective web pages.
"I initially came
up with the idea about a year or so ago, to help students mainly
with research," says Sartor.
"Starting small with
20 progressive organizations, I realized that this could be a
great research tool for those in Atlanta's activist community."
According to Sartor, his
background as a union/activist organizer helped him form useful
relationships within this community that shaped and encouraged
the project.
His hope is that students
"think of it as something to use and improve for use by
anyone in the community who can benefit from it."
The site offers links to
home pages for AID Atlanta, the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation
to Research Atlanta, Inc., Hands On Atlanta, the Atlanta Gay
and Lesbian Center, and many other sites with up-to-date press
releases, studies, reports and much more.
Having sent 300 postcards
about this site to area social studies teachers and the community
at large, Sartor plans to connect Atlanta to its No. 1 resource,
a cohesive perception of itself as a hotbed of activism.
