"Whereas, the present
system of public school education in Atlanta is being attacked
by certain interests with the evident purpose of bringing about
a complete reorganization of the school system for the purpose
of reducing the cost of operating the school department of Atlanta;
and
"Whereas, the present school system in Atlanta has been based
on a survey of the Atlanta schools in 1921 by the educational
department of the Teachers' College of Columbia University and
the recommendations of two of the most eminent authorities on
education in America, Drs. Strayer and Englehardt; and
"Whereas, the K-6-3-3 plan which has been adopted in Atlanta is the most widely adopted modern plan in operation in the cities of the United States and is distinctively an American plan in its principles and purposes; and
"Whereas, the guiding principle of American education should be the welfare of the children of all classes of citizens, rather than the development of any special group; and
Whereas, the proper education and development of her future citizens should be of greater concern to the taxpayers of a city than the reduction of the amount of money spent on public education; therefore; be it
"Resolved, that we, the directors of the Atlanta Public School Teachers Association, go on record as expressing our approval of the present organization of the Atlanta Public Schools as the system which meets most adequately the educational needs of Atlanta's children; and be it further
"Resolved, that we express our opposition to any movement to change the organization of the school system in a manner which would limit the educational opportunities of any group of children and; be it further
"Resolved, that we authorize the executive committee of the association to present to the public such information in regard to the plan and purposes of the Atlanta School System as will enable them to appreciate the advantages which their children now enjoy in order that they may give their full support to the board of education and the school officials in their efforts to develop a modern and progressive school system in Atlanta."
