Auxiliary Services Subcommittee
Key Observations of Where We Are
Now
1.Transportation
- School schedule limited by Transportation requirements
- Few activities funded for after school so students can't stay and be
involved because they cawt get home
- Insufficient funds to pay for debate since budget same for last 5 years
for 4 (was 2) schools
- Budget must be submitted in fall for the year; it takes months to get
APS approval
- Not effective curricular support (i.e., field trips)
2.Food Service
- Takes too long to get food
- Not enough variety of foods that kids will eat
- No welcoming space
3.Main Office Administrative Services
- No message service so difficult to communicate with teachers; teachers
don't respond to parental requests but hold Main Ofc. responsible; parents
have unreasonable expectations for relaying messages to students
- Limited information about school activities which breeds frustration,
undermines school spirit
4.Custodial Services
School isn't clean due to understaffing, and student and teacher lack
of help
No on-site supervisor so no accountability or belief that work can
be completed
No real school input on personnel selections leading to lack of teamwork
Physical plant is run down
5.Counseling
- Not enough time and resources for career counseling (voc ed and career)
- Not enough time or space for group counseling
- No clerical support and team spirit to pull student files, run transcripts
- No school or system technology for appropriate access to student records,
email to teachers on a LAN, and STAR data
- No school computer automation for student administration, tracking
students seamlessly and quickly-from registrar, counselors, attendance,
teachers
