Govemors Visit Grady

Today the governors from Wisconsin and Kentucky will visit Gradyto host an educational forum in our
theater. Governor Barnes is also expected as well as central office personnel. Make sure that you continue
doing what you do best, and that is the delivery ofinstruction. Your classroom may be visited, so please
concentrate on course objectives as you carryout your teaching duties and responsibilities. Additionally,
make sure that you promote apositive and safe environment in your classroom as well as in the halls during
class transitions.

PTSA OPEN HOUSE

Remember that "Open House" will be Tuesday night, September 26, thetheater. Check the school calendar
and the chalkboard in the office for the time. You should arrive in the theater for introductions at least 30
minutes before the start of the program. Make sure thatyou have course syllabi ready to distribute to parents
visiting your classroom. This is anopportunity for you to go over course objectives and your academic
expectations of studentsin your classes. This would not be a good time for you to discuss individual student
matters. Thetime that you have with parents coming to your classroom will be approximately 10 minutes.
Have parents schedule conferenceswith you through the school counselors if they wish to discuss an
individual student'sperformance. Finally, you will need to keep a "sign-in" register for each class period that
parents visitwith you. This will be important information for us to have as we begin assembling data for this
school year.

EXPLORATORIES BEGIN

School wide exploratories will begin on Thursday, September 21,2000. So that this initiative moves
smoothly and with minimal disruption, I am asking that we meetbriefly Wednesday afternoon at 3:40 p.m. in
the media center. Mr. McCurdy and Mr. Sartor willgive us information needed for us to initialize this
program. Remember, exploratories are veryimportant this school year and must not be treated lightly.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR 2000-2001

Mrs. Dianne Simmons is Our Teacher of the Year here at Grady forthis school year. You will receive
information later as to how we will recognize her for this honor.
