Former Mayor Roy LeCraw's partial statement concerning his proposal for separate schools for boys and girls:

"Looking to the future of our public schools in Atlanta, I believe it would be expedient and practical at this time to segregate the sexes. This could probably be done by the Atlanta Board of Education without any instructions or assistance from the outside. The reasons for this suggestion are as follows:

1. It would remove the threat of the social dangers of having white girls go to school with Negro boys and white boys go to school with Negro girls.

2. The Negro boys probably would not be as anxious to an all male (white) school; nor would the Negro girls probably be as anxious to go to an all-girl (white) school."
