You're gonna take the pig trail. If you don't know it, consider taking the long way by heading east on I-40 toward Fort Smith, then turning north onto I-540. Follow the DFW Directions from there. If you are unfamiliar with the pig trail and you're going to drive it anyway, DRIVE SLOW until you cross Hwy 16. This road has and will continue to kill.
Get to I-40.
Take I-40 in whatever direction will lead you to Hwy 23 (west, if you're coming from Little Rock).
Go north on Hwy 23 (a.k.a. - the pig trail). (That means you turn right onto Hwy 23 if you're coming from Little Rock).
After driving forever (I think it's 53 miles +/- from Ozark) on a REALLY twisting, curving mountain road (the kind that kills people) you will reach Aurora (a.k.a. - a wide spot in the road). It is just past a bridge you will cross over Henderson Creek.
In Aurora, turn right onto Hwy 127 (there should be a small, yellow and black Dragon Crest sign on the right side of the road, attached to the Hwy 127 sign). Follow Hwy 127 until it becomes a dirt road. Check your odometer at that point, and keep going on the dirt road.
About 1.0 miles after the end of the pavement you will see another small, yellow and black Dragon Crest sign attached to a black mailbox on the left side of the road. This mailbox is just outside the gate that leads to the campground. (If you're watching mailboxes instead of your odometer, it will be the next one after the one labeled "McLean.")
If the roads are bad due to recent rainy weather, we strongly suggest that you park on the side of the road and hike into the camp, unless you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. For the brave, foolhardy, or well-prepared (i.e. - 4WD) driver, you may proceed through the main gate and down the main dirt road, bearing left at the fork, until you reach the 3rd large area that has been cleared of trees. There are a couple of pinkish signs there that say "Parking Area." Park your vehicle there unless you are really prepared for some nasty off-road driving. Grab your gear and follow the main road all the way down the hill, bearing left at the fork, until you see a circle of logs around a camp fire, with a partially finished building next to it. Look and listen for us there.
If you get lost on the site, honk your horn at 30 second intervals and we will come and find you.
