NW Arkansas Chapter

Directions to Camp Satyrchase

From Central Missouri

Last Updated: 4/20/06

NOTE: I have NOT verified these instructions by driving the route. I strongly suggest that you get a map and bring it with you.

Get yourself to Springfield, MO. Then go south on Hwy 65 toward Branson. Keep going south on Hwy 65, all the way into Arkansas. Take a right (west) onto Hwy 62 (about a quarter mile past the town of Bear Creek Springs). Then take a left onto Hwy 412 (just past Alpena). Then take a left onto Hwy 412B, which leads into Huntsville.

From the square in downtown Huntsville, go south on Hwy 23 (It looks like a narrow alley between 2 buildings. If you have trouble finding it, just stop at the Pizza Hut or Texaco and ask for directions.)

Turn left on Hwy 127 (there should be a small, yellow and black Dragon Crest sign attached to the Hwy 127 sign). This will be about 7 miles past the Huntsville Pizza Hut in a tiny town called Aurora (a.k.a. - a wide spot in the road). Follow Hwy127, which will become a dirt road after about 5.7 miles. Check your odometer at that point, and keep going on the dirt road.

About 1.0 miles after the end of the pavement you will see another small, yellow and black Dragon Crest sign attached to a black mailbox on the left side of the road. This mailbox is just outside the gate that leads to the campground. (If you're watching mailboxes instead of your odometer, it will be the next one after the one labeled "McLean.")

If the roads are bad due to recent rainy weather, we strongly suggest that you park on the side of the road and hike into the camp, unless you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. For the brave, foolhardy, or well-prepared (i.e. - 4WD) driver, you may proceed through the main gate and down the main dirt road, bearing left at the fork, until you reach the 3rd large area that has been cleared of trees. Park your vehicle there unless you are really prepared for some nasty off-road driving. Grab your gear and follow the main road all the way down the hill, bearing left at the fork, until you see a circle of logs around a camp fire, with a partially finished building next to it. Look and listen for us there.

If you get lost on the site, honk your horn at 30 second intervals and we will come and find you.
