Pavement. Friend!
Recently, long time Pavement fan BWiehler had a conversation with a robot and thought it was Steven Malkmus.  The repercussions here at The Fan Boy Rant Page have been startling.  People from all around the web have weighed in with their two cents on this topic.  Here is one of the more enlightening missives of late:

PAVEMENT in a Chat Room Advice

Hi Barbara.  Well, I like Pavement, but I suppose I'm somewhere in between on this big, hot issue of your perceived dis by Mr. Malkmus.  So if I'm in between, why am I even taking the time to write?  Fair question.  More than anything, I just finished a frighteningly big paper for my Torts class (yeah, every bit as scintillating as it sounds) and I want to think about slightly less grave things now.  So let me say that I bet SM was not in the best mood while responding to whatever you asked him.  (Incidentally, what DID you ask him?)  At the same time, even if he was, well...  perhaps it's better not to invest much of yourself in what your favorite rock personalities think of you.  So take heart.  Divorce yourself from the notion of ever communicating with music types on a meaningful level, but go fetch your Pavement collection (yes, the "Steven Malkmus smokeless ashtray" too) from the garbage.  Oh, but Elaine is a little off course when she says "NOBODY DISRESPECTS PAVEMENT" or whatever.  They're the best, in my opinion, but will somebody tell me again why they're somehow exempt from all scrutiny?  That's what makes this country so great, or so they tell me.
    Yours,

         Amy
