Recently Matador Attempted To Dupe On-line Pavement Fans The World Over. Here's One Loyal FBRP Reader's Thoughts On Matador's Activities.
I read the Times' article on the bogus chat room Matador orchestrated.
Reps from Matador (one woman in particular whose name escapes me now)
maintain that it was all in good fun and that it was all a technological
experiment of sorts, serving to prove the inanity of some people's complete
faith in cybersources, progress, multipolarity, God and Reason, etc. etc.
etc. Really it was a poorly executed attempt at belittling Pavement fans
that actually failed on its own terms insofar as most people, it seems,
walked away from the incident shrugging their shoulders, thinking,
"Yeah..whatever." and not thinking this little experiment-- benign,
insipid, and unscientific as it was-- had really shaken the world's
confidence in technology. Sorry Matador--you help put out some good music,
but stick to what you you know and stop trying to make grand comments on
society and the effects of pseudo chat rooms on loyal fans. I didn't and
wouldn't participate in such a thing even if it were legitimate, but it all
backfired, in my estimation. Bravo.
Oh, and I think Elaine needs sensitivity training.
