Please note that during the warmer months of the year we will mostly be shipping orders out on Mondays and Tuesdays so that all perishable items will reach their destinations before the weekend and not sit in a hot warehouse. Please pay attention to the items that are marked with the blinking flag when you order. These items definitely should be shipped by air freight.  All UPS prices listed on our web site are approximate and the actual cost will be charged with the addition of a $3.00 handling fee.

Scandinavian Specialties first opened its doors in April of 1962 under the name of Norwegian Sausage Company.  They operated out of a very small space in Seattle's Ballard location.  Equipment was brought from Norway to make all the sausages.  Current owners moved the store to a new, larger location in Ballard where there is now enough space to have their import business (ScanSelect, Inc.) in the same location.  A small cafe was added and now lunch is served daily.  With the move we were also able to expand our gift items, books, CDs, etc., and have a large selection .  We are currently working on getting those items added to this web site.

Since we import directly from Scandinavia, the owners travel regularly to Scandinavia to look for new products.  If there are items you are interested in that you cannot find on our web site, please feel free to send us an e-mail at foods@scanspecialties.com and we will try to add those to our inventory.
