Received September 9, 1997 Hi Scott,

I don't know if this qualifies as a near death experience, but it happened to me. My father passed away on April 12, 1992. The last day of his life, we observed him getting weaker and weaker. I made the choice to take my mom home while my 2 sisters stayed with our father.

It was night time, and I couldn't sleep. Sitting up in a recliner, I thought about what had happened that day, dad's worsening condition with his kidney failure. Suddenly, I was blinded by bright, pulsating light. It was shimmery and very bright, but it didn't hurt my eyes. I didn't know what to make of it. I thought I was losing my vision. I got up and groped along the wall to reach the door so I could go into the room where my husband and infant son were peacefully sleeping. When I got to the door, the shimmering light faded away and I could see again. I was terrified. I thought I was having a medical problem with my eyes. This had never happened before.

When the shimmering went away, it was 12:46 a.m. Ten minutes later, my sister called to say that dad had died. The coincidence didn't really hit me until we were in the car driving to the hospice to pay our respects to dad. Then I realized that there might be a connection. My suspicions were confirmed when I saw the time of death on the actual death certificate. 12:45 a.m. It was then that I realized that he came by to say goodbye, or for one split second I was drawn into a place between this life and the next. I think it was so that I could know that dad had actually gone somewhere good. This is when I truly, truly knew there was another place...heaven.

I went ahead and had a cat scan and went to the top eye specialist in my city. Everything was fine as far as my health. The eye specialist didn't believe this could happen, and told me it was an occipital misfire in the brain. But I know what it was. The light is beautiful and I know someday I will make my journey to it once more.
