1738 a ship by the name of "Two Brothers" set sail for the
US. The ship was destined for Savannah, GA, but because of the Fort
and Garrison at St. Simon's Island needed civilians to farm and provide
civilian support for the Fort, Gen. Oglethorpe diverted the ship to St.
Simons Island. The passengers aboard were indentured servants', but they
were indentured to the Georgia Trustees in England with Gen. Oglethorpe as
their representative. Among the passengers was Widow Derrick
traveling from Germany with four children.
Jacob, Melchoir, Margaret & Elizabeth. They landed at Savannah
and moved to St. Simon's Island. They stayed there until Gen.
Oglethorpe removed his troops from the Island. They then migrated to
S.C. It was unheard for a woman to travel without a husband during this
time and it is assumed that her husband died at sea. It is also
assumed that since Widow Derrick was still young that she remarried as
there is not any further information available on her. Over time the
place on St. Simons became know as Ft. Fredeica.
families at Ft. Frederica prospered as was evident in letters from Gen.
Oglehtorpe, even the widows and orphans. Ge. Oglethorpe quickly
petitioned Rev. Bolzous at Ebenezer, this was another large settlement of
immigtand German families, to send a Minister, which he eventually
did. The minister not only provided spiritual guidance but also
education for the children.
Next information on the family of Widow Derrick is found in Dutch

DERRICK - CATHERINE KLECKLEY
Andrew was 57 years old in 1850. This is from 1850 census records. On the Census records, his last name is spelled
"Derick". This was used by a grandson of his named Esau Derrick. I am not sure how the spelling got changed as my grandpa was John Caswell Derrick, Son of William D. Derick and grandson of Andrew. Grandpa spelled his name Derrick, although his daddy spelled his
Derick. Andrew and Catherine moved to
(Bear Creek) now Hampton, Henry County Georgia in about 1825/26 from
Lexington, Lexington, S C.
Andrew was baptized in the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC, but attended the Protestant Methodist
Church, named Harmony Grove Protestant Methodist Church, when he came to Georgia. Andrew and Catherine settled in,
Bear Creek, now Hampton, GA in Henry County. There were not any Lutheran Churches in the area at that time. He was a veteran of the War of 1812 and served in the Capt. Amos Banks Company. When Catherine applied for a widow's pension Andrew's death was listed as 17 January 1871. Andrew and Catherine moved sometime between 1860 and 1870 from Henry County as they were not listed on the Census records of Henry County in 1870. We do not know where Andrew was living when he died as we have been unable to find his burial place. We are still searching
and it has been reported that he is buried on Harmony Grove Hampton, Rd.,
