In Memory of the 9th Armored Division

"Phantom"

World War II

The Ninth Armored Division, under the command of Maj. Gen. John W. L e o n a r d, joined the "immortals" of military history March 7, 1945, by its spectacular capture of the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen and its subsequent swift establishment of the first Allied foothold east of the Rhine. This brilliant military coup electrified the entire world, and hastened the end of the European War. This booklet commemorating seizure of "The Bridge" is respectfully dedicated to those living and dead who courageously carried out this magnificent feat.

Where was Lieutenant-Colonel Ralph S. Harper killed in action?

Who knows the truth?
Who could answer these questions:

Does someone know about one possible aid station or field hospital set up in Tavigny? Did someone witness the death of Lt.Col Harper? Did someone see Harper’s body? Where? One soldier from Phoenix, Arizona is said to have helped a machine gunned man during a fight at Vissoule. Do you know this man? Anyone who can help is asked to write to either Henri Rogister or Roger Marquet; both are CRIBA members.
