2001: a takin'-up-less-space odyssey

countdown... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 -- BLAST OFF those pounds!

Pictures worth a thousand pounds!
Wendy at the Flying Pig Marathon, May 2000
To paraphrase Captain James T. Kirk, "Weight... the final frontier." Last year I chose as my mission to get fitter by exercising regularly, hoping the weight would "fall off." After walking a marathon-a-month in 2000 -- and training diligently, too -- I managed to GAIN weight!

So on March 1, 2001, I returned to an old friend: TOPS (an acronym for "Take Off Pounds Sensibly"). With the help of my fellow TOPS members, and a heaping helping of imagination and determination, this year I am going to take up less space.

The TOPS pledge:
I am an intelligent person. I will control my emotions and not let my emotions control me. Every time I am tempted to use food to satisfy my frustrated desires, build up my injured ego, or dull my senses, I will remember: even though I overeat in private, my excess poundage is there for all the world to see
how foolish I have been!
