The Drifter's Bamboo Rod Re-Build

A couple of months ago I had an urge to build a bamboo rod. After pricing
bamboo blanks, I decided to order an old bamboo rod from Ebay. I scored a 7 foot
5-piece, 6 weight bamboo outfit for about $55. When the thing arrived, I
stripped off everything: varnish, handle, reel seat, thread, and ferrules. I
then "miked" the ends of the cane sections and ordered new ferrules.
Also ordered a Struble reel seat with a premium cork grip. After a lot of advice
from my friends at NGTO, The Hazel Creek "Special" is ready for the
stream.
I also ordered some wooden tubing and end caps from a wood supplier. A few
coats of epoxy, and the tube was cut to length. The total cost for the rod was
about $145 and $30 for the rod tube. All in all a fun project. Would I do it
again. Heck yeah! Gotta go visit the Ebay site again. Thanks for all the
help...... Drifter
