Taste the Rainbow!
Happy Humpday!
Spent yesterday evening knitting at T's house. She was so sweet and got me souvenir yarn on her recent trip since I was home tending her garden! And naturally, it's cotton! In fresh, sherbety colors. It would make a killer bag!
The Salvia wrap continues to bloom (har...har). T and I invented a new word last night for this item of clothing that is a wrap, shawl, shrug. Shrawlp. Go right now and use this word.
SHRAWLP.

Knit crush
Sorry I haven't written lately! I know, you were losing sleep over it, right? Haha. I got all wrapped up in getting ready for my bf's birthday party and at the same time work got really busy. But most important, I was having serious wrist pain for the last two weeks. Fortunately it eased up a few days ago, though I don't know if it had anything to do with the exercises/massage/rest I was doing. It seems to go in phases. Enough about my wrists!
M came over last weekend and we went to Sea Needles, of course. I got some wool thread for crewelling (can I make that a verb? good.), a ball of navy ribbon that was on clearance for the Salvia (multidirectional) wrap and the cutest little ultra-short circular needles! I have become obsessed with them, as often happens with adorable little japanese collectibles.

They are size #8's I think, and what you see there is a 30-stitch tube. I have no idea what I will do with it, maybe it will be a cute belt, headband or scarf. Anyway, I've been stuffing this in my pocket or leaving it on my desk to knit while I'm on the phone or need a break from typing. I'll try to get a shot of it in action soon.
The Salvia wrap is almost done. Like I said, I got one more little ball of yarn to add to it--a navy ribbon from that crazy cat Maggiknits. I will wait to show you a pic until I can model the finished wrap. Besides, it has been Rain Central in these parts all week and will continue through Wednesday or so. I wanted to take that photo above all week, and this morning the rain finally stopped for 4.5 minutes and the sun came out for seriously 10 seconds just so I could snap that shot. I feel bad for Lolly since she's in the area this weekend and all we've got for her is rain. Sorry, I hope Sea Needles makes it up to you!
In the most recent knit.1 mag, Vickie Howell is interviewing Lisa Loeb and she asks her if she has a "knit crush on any particular yarns or tools?" Lisa said she likes the thread cutter pendants and jelly point protectors (I have to agree!). My obsession with the teeny circ reminded me of that. So in turn I ask you, "What knit crush do you have?"

Where did you get crabs?
Haha, I took the bf out for crabs for his birthday last night so of course he was telling people I gave him crabs. I'm sure you've seen the t-shirts and bumper stickers around to that effect. Ahh, juvenile humor. He may be 50 now, but he'll always be a boy.
I picked up a few arty crafty magazines today, which is always a great kick in the pants to my laziness. Hey, has B&N stopped carrying Selvedge or were they just out of stock? I suppose I could have asked. I got:
Fiberarts. They had a big focus on maps this issue and if you know me, that is almost as fascinating to me as math! M knows exactly what I'm planning on now.... a map of Chicago!
knit.1. So shoot me, I find it entertaining. And there is a neat tank top that I would wear. Though I doubt I'd stand around with my hips jutted out two feet in front of my body like that while wearing it.
Adorn. This is the premiere issue and I think they did a good job. I tend to agree with one review I read that the projects are geared toward beginners, but hey. I already learned from it the secret maths to perfect crocheted circles. And I liked their reviews of several altered tee/clothing books.
So are you thinking my camera's broken for good? Or that I simply haven't been knitting? No, in fact there has been progress on the multidirectional wrap, but it will be so boring until it's actually complete and I can wear it. I mean, it's garter stitch. Period. So maybe this weekend (when the sun comes back! you hear me?) I'll take pics.

Swing away
I had The List of things to get done this weekend. Everything was going fine until Saturday morning when I bought a hammock. Do you know the hammock is the evil nemesis of productivity? The root of all laziness? Because why would I do anything else when it's 74 degrees with a faint breeze? Of course you can knit while enjoying the hammock, so I did accomplish something.
Toni sent me the leftovers of the cotton/rayon so I can finish the multidirectional wrap. I'd like to have it done in time for the big party here next weekend. Someone--who shall remain nameless but his initials are BF--is turning 50 this week and we're doing a big bbq for him. This leads to my other urgent project--I want to finish up that wool rug for my bathroom since I'm having so much company. But I can't finish both! Hell, I probably can't finish either, so I'll stop worrying.
I'll leave you with a couple cool things I found this week.
Margaret O'Leary is a cool designer who just opened a boutique in Chicago.
Stitch DC just opened a THIRD shop, and I have to visit any of them!
Whispering Pine is a neat blog I just found.

Traveling garden
I mention my garden every once in a while. Truth is, I'm a crazy gardener and I don't blog much about it because it really warrants it's own blog and I don't want to take over this one. But since I can't seem to post as often as I'd like and I have a plethora of flower pics, the flowers may just take over for the summer.

This is a salvia by my back door. Quite by accident I have planted all purple flowers along the sidewalk there. This started blooming last week when I was ripping out the multidirectional wrap. Here it is pre-frog.

I added some leftovers in complementary colors. And Toni seems to think she has some leftovers of the main yarn, too. That should be plenty to finish this wrap. I have named it the Salvia wrap because one of the blue-purples in here is the exact same shade as the flower. When the knitting is done, it will be like taking my garden with me!

Since this photo I have added another couple inches to the "sleeve" shown on the right there. It's so gorgeous in person and terribly easy. This is another one of those patterns that is mostly math and then you make it to fit.
Love the math!

One-skein THIS, bitches
I had a come to Jesus meeting this afternoon with the multidirectional wrap from my last post. I am doing all I can to keep it out of the frog pond, but it has to shoulder (Pun!) some of the responsbility.
I read the pattern, the part where it said "250 to 500 yards, depending on measurements". I know I'm at the large end of the scale. That didn't stop me from trying to make the wrap with 200 yards of yarn! But the yarn was doing its tricky best to make me think I could pull it off. I had the back and shoulders complete and started on one of the sleeves before I could even really see shrinkage in the skein. Sigh. I'm about to get scavenger-creative.
But in better one-skein news, Jenna wrote up a sweet pattern for a lavender eyebag! And she used M's favorite yarn, Aurora 8. Do you see that, M? You know have plenty of that yarn hanging out at your place. You know you need to knit now.
And the latest Magknits is online. I like the little girl's bag on the cover, Rufflette, Lux and Emily. What do you like?

I prefer the term "conscientious'
Some people may say only dorks go to the gym on Friday night. Even though I just went, which totally makes me a dork. But whatever. This week was a short work week, but it was still busy. Actually had a date with the bf, dinner and drinks and everything!
And his oldest son graduated high school, so that took all of one night. Dudes, seriously, it's only high school. You make it sound like it's the pinnacle of existence. No I mean it, one kid actually said in her speech, "This is the most important event of our lives." Sure, if you get run over by a bus as you walk out of here. (So I don't sound totally heartless--I am proud of the bf's kid, not for graduating high school, but for being an awesome person.)
Can you tell I hated high school?
Can you tell I have no knitting or stitching progress to speak of?
I am finishing up a wrap in the rayon/cotton I got from Toni using the multidirectional pattern by Iris Schreier in VK Summer '06. Here on another blog, about halfway down the page. I'll probably be done with it tomorrow since I'm running out of yarn. It will be sort of a multidirectional One Skein Wonder--I doubt I have enough for the ties in the front.
Hopefully tomorrow I'm getting a snazzy new bookshelf for my "guest bedroom" which has never held guests and has always held craft crap. Until I have time to show you my "Extreme Guestroom Makeover", peruse these pics of Bildlek's knitting. Her work is amazing and inspirational. I love the celebration of color in everything she does.
