Belated birthday

Hey everybody! There hasn't been much going on here except sock knitting. No halloween or costume parties, no harvest or wool festivals. Just boring ribbing on tiny needles. But the good news is the dude's birthday socks are done!

cotton wool socks

Only six days late! I made him try them on the second I cast off, so this picture is before I wove in the ends or washed them. They fit although the ribbing is a bit loose. He says he doesn't mind at all, but what does he know? Haha.

I used two skeins of Jawoll Cotton Jacquard and Wendy's Generic Toe-up Pattern like I usually do. I need to branch out and try some other sock patterns like when I make myself something out of that Koigu.

Now I want to immediately cast on for another project--I need a bus project for this week's commute. I'm thinking a hat or scarf for myself or someone on my holiday list. I'll keep you posted!

Fake Rhinebeck in Purples

I know it's fall and everyone is hankering for browns, rusts and golden hues. But as I was digging through my stash for Carrie's Fake Rhinebeck party, I realized I have so many gorgeous pinks and purples. I don't want to overload you with yarn that hasn't become something grander yet, so here are just two of my "purchases" from Fake Rhinebeck.

koigu

Two skeins of Koigu PPPM in purple (maybe color #165?). I intend for this become the first pair of socks that I keep for myself. I am putting no timeframe on this project, but my feet think this winter would be nice.

purple cotton

Cotton is always in season! This is Flake Cotton by Ironstone Warehouse, hailing from Las Vegas, New Mexico--NOT to be confused with Las Vegas, Nevada, those posers! Karen had to twist my arm (uh huh) to buy this fun cotton for an OSW and so it still may become.

That's all I "spent" this weekend at Fake Rhinebeck and I can honestly say I have a clear conscience about my yarn budget. :)

For those dying to know--today was the dude's birthday and no I didn't finish the socks. They are incredibly close, though, and I could probably bind off, wash and block them tomorrow or Wednesday. Once they dry I'll get modeled photos.

See ya soon!

Did you YarnCon without me?

Hey friends! I knew this would happen--I would get my Ravelry invite and then cease to blog. I don't want to abandon the blog, though, because it is such a fun place to tell you guys stories of what's going on--not just pictures and stash and queue.

The most recent "story" is actually one I missed out on--YarnCon. I had to work and was really disappointed since here was this awesome indie celebration of yarnism mere blocks from my house! I would not have had cash to purchase anything but I could have seen what was out there and said hi to some peeps. So, did you go and how was it?

And hallelujah it's finally chilly! So I have been busting out the basketweave on my vest in the past week. I know, it doesn't look like much progress, but whatever....let the might of my size 13 bamboos distract you.

I also turned the heels on the dude's birthday socks yesterday. Today he requested gloves and a couple more hats. Whoa there, cowboy. Where do my socks and hats and dog sweaters fit in? Actually the gloves were already in my queue for him for xmas and I can whip up a dude hat in a day, but seriously. He watches me knit this stuff--he knows how long it takes.

And lastly, Things I Love About Ravelry, part ninety thousand:
For reals, there is a group called The Knitterly Dachshund. You know, if you happened to be a knitter with a dachshund and perhaps you made lots of clothes and toys for it. *cough*

Am I Blue?

Not much. But the yarn Karen gave me this week sure is. Isn't she sweet? It's Malabrigo Laceweight and it will be a Sarcelle for someone--maybe myself.

It's hard to stay sad with friends like I have. It doesn't hurt that I got invited to Ravelry today. Fucking A!

I may blog even less now that I want to explore that site. Dear Ravelry, will you give me a job when I lose mine for raveling at work? Thanks, see you soon. Love, Laura.
