Donald
Lee Strand (BM University of Georgia), Tuba, was born and raised in Atlanta,
Georgia. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from
the University of Georgia, where he was selected as national winner of
the Brass Division of the prestigious Music Teachers National Association
Collegiate Artist Competition. His principal teachers include Arnold Jacobs,
David Randolph and Abe Torchinsky. Arguably the busiest free-lance tubist
in the southeastern United States, Mr. Strand is the principal tubist
of the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, Atlanta Opera Orchestra, and the Columbus
(Georgia) Symphony. He has also appeared with the Atlanta Symphony, Birmingham
Symphony, Savannah Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Augusta Symphony, Greensville
(South Carolina) Symphony, Jacksonville (Florida), and with the Spoleto
Festival Orchestra in Spoleto, Italy.
