REAL SELF DEFENSE, FITNESS,AND FUN!!
About Fitness......
Are you bored by mindless aerobic exercise? Are you looking for an activity that truly challenges your mind as well as your body? Martial arts is a great way to stay in shape and relive the stress and frustration of living in the nineties. There are many activities you can choose from to help keep you in shape, but step aerobics won't save your life when some thug asks you for your wallet. Adult students will quickly develop better cardiovascular health and flexibility. Many students have made significant changes in their level of fitness and often use the enthusiasm they feel to help them kick old habits. Weight loss of twenty or thirty pounds is quite common for those students who have enrolled in the program to help them overcome a weight problem. Many students have quit smoking after there first lesson never to pick up another cigarette. The primary reason for students achieving such outstanding results is that it doesn't feel like"exercise". The classes teach practical self defense movements that keep your mind interested and challenged. Students stay enthusiastic and can't wait to get to class, instead of " I have to get on the treadmill AGAIN?" For those student who are interested ,martial arts also allows them to challenge themselves by participating in tournaments and competitions. Participation in these events are optional, it can be a great deal of fun for those of us who are sport oriented.
About Self Defense
Of all the benefits of martial arts training, self defense is probably the most important reason adults choose martial arts over other activities. Although all martial art schools claim to teach the student self defense skills, very few give the student a program that is truly practical and useful in real life situations. Ninety percent of all real life confrontations end up in a clinch or on the ground. To be fully prepared for self defense one must develop skills in both stand up striking techniques and close in grappling techniques. Students must be taught movements that are useful in reality based situations, not just traditional patterns that look impressive when your training partner is cooperative. Students must be taught how to defend one's self at all ranges, standing up and on the ground. You must learn how to use timing, distance, leverage, and position so that the superior size and strength does not matter. This is also very important when teaching women's self defense, as most of the time women do not have a strength advantage. Our school is based on real self defense training and warriorship.Warriorship is the concept of making one's self strong in order to help others.JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE IS WEARING A BLACK BELT DOESN'T MEAN THEY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT REAL SELF DEFENSE!! TRY TO LOOK PAST ALL THE TRADITION AND FANCY UNIFORMS AND SEE IF THE THEORIES AND CONCEPTS THE INSTRUCTOR TEACHES MAKES SENSE. DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS. IF THE INSTRUCTOR CAN'T ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS, FIND ANOTHER INSTRUCTOR.
