We greet the East, direction of Air, 
traditional quarter of the intellect, the mind, the power to know.
May we all make learning a lifelong endeavor,
both for its innate joy and as a means to help the world 
of which we are all a part.

We greet the South, direction of Fire, 
traditional quarter of energy.
May we all aspire to be channels of energy with the power to create, 
to act, to be agents of beneficial change.


We greet the West, direction of Water,
traditional quarter of emotions. 
May we all have courage to face our feelings,
to share our joy with others, 
to learn empathy and compassion from our sorrow,
to direct our anger into constructive efforts.


We greet the North, direction of Earth,
traditional quarter of the body.
May we draw strength and adaptability from this quarter
and a deep, abiding respect for the vast web of the Earth
and Her inhabitants of which we are a part.
