France, Roll 3

I arrived in Paris the following Saturday evening, and after checking in at the 3 Ducks hostel, I headed straight for the tower. The second level was under repairs, which is the reason for the green netting.

Strangely, the third level didn't seem much higher than the second. This picture illustrates the building height restrictions in most areas of paris.

In the background is La Defence, the other downtown that includes most of Paris's skyscrapers.

Looking up from the second to the third level. The massiveness of the Eiffel tower is impressive.

In the upper level there is a recreation of Edison presenting Eiffel with a phonograph.

The city of lights... I wonder where that name came from?

Looking up at the inner structure of the tower from the first level

From the base

Every hour the tower would sparkle in it's lights created to celebrate the new millenium.

Sunday I visited the Musee d'Orsay, filled with excellent sculptures and painting from the second half of the 19th century..

The main entrance to the Louvre, an astonishing collection of art up to the middle 19th century.

Inside the Louvre

A portion of the Mideval remains of the Louvre.
