R. Palmer Beasley Sun Jun 1 21:34:17 1997
I am researching the origins of my SHUTT ancestors of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. Were they DUTCH or GERMAN? Beginning in PA. JACOB and HENRY SHUTT (probably brothers) migrated to Maryland and North Carolina before moving to Muhlenberg Co, KY in the very early years of the 19th century. Henry and most of his family moved again around 1829 to Sagamon Co, IL while Jacob and some or all of his children remained in Muhlenberg Co where Jacob left a will in 1835 naming wife Elizabeth and children Mary, Sussanah, Abraham and Jacob Jr. Henry SHUTT born 1865 in PA married Elizabeth GROVES in NC and had children named Christina, Elizabeth, Jacob, Jonathon, Joseph and Henry Jr, and probably John. Henry SHUTT died 1852 in Auburn, IL. SHUTT is such a rare name that widely dispersed individuals are probably related. Large SHUTT clusters in several locations by the mid 19th century suggest migrations of family groups, e.g. most counties of PA especially Philadelphia and surrounding counties (Burks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties) of PA; Stokes Co, NC; MD; Tuscarawas Co, OHIO; Muhlenberg Co, KY, and Sangamon Co, IL. Little or no organized information seems to exist, so ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE SHUTTs IS WELCOME, irrespective as to whether it can be linked to any of the persons named above. QUESTIONS: Can anyone identify 1) the European origins of the SHUTTs, 2) SHUTT ancestors and/or any relatives of HENRY or JACOB SHUTT who remained in PA, MD or NC, and 3) descendants. Spelling variations may include SHUT / SHUTTS / SCHUTT / SCHUT / SCHUTTE / SCHUTE etc. Many Thanks ---- Palmer Beasley c/o 74222,2077@Compuserve.com.
