synaxis is a modern rock band with progressive leanings creating and performing original music in the Triangle area of North Carolina. We like to call it pomp rock or grok rock, among other things. It's big and thick and rich and loud. We've been together for eons, it seems like, but perserverance does have it's benefits...

So what do we sound like? Inquiring minds want to know... Well, we're loud, and got lots of gear (much of it vintage)and some absolutley crystal-shattering, head-splitting female lead vocals . If you've got a headache, we don't recommend a synaxis show. We do not bill ourselves as alternative, but rock. I guess influences start with Pink Floyd, Yes and move to Rush, U2 and on to Pearl Jam, Collective Soul and more recent stuff. For those who know, we're a great big bombastic Iona; sort of... We've tried a variety of things, but really like to do it arena- style. Big, thundering and pompous. The bigger the better!!!

Actually,we're are not always bombastic. We do have more recent material that's got some mellow flows. And we're trying some different things with a Dave Matthews kind of feel.... (excellent band!) We're pleased that most people find it difficult to say who we sound like. To that we say - cool! We also think it's cool that people hear different things in our sound. Thumper even heard It's a Beautiful Day in our sound.... that was definitely a new one on us. But then you've got to know Thumper...
