Denton, Texas Denton, Texas is a town of 100,000 people (according to the US Census Bureau's 2005 population estimates) located roughly thirty miles north of Dallas and Fort Worth. Denton is one of the northernmost cities of the Dallas-Fort Worth “Metroplex,” which has a population of about 5 million people according to the 2000 census. Denton is the seat of Denton County and is home to the University of North Texas and Texas Womans University. It was my employer from June 1999 to May 2002 and my home between May 2000 and May 2002. I recently "returned" to Denton, this time as a consultant for the Denton County Transportation Authority. In the spring of 2005 I assisted in evaluating and redesigning the city's bus network, and I am currently involved in Environmental Impact Statement and Preliminary Engineering efforts for a proposed commuter rail line linking Denton to Dallas. Is Denton "Anti-Business?" I created this web page several years ago, when I stil lived in and worked for Denton. It's a bit dated now, but I think it presents a good recent history of the development climate in Denton and conveys the stresses, challenges and political characteristics of a rapidly-growing city.
