Dear Grushenka
Last night we had our first significant snowfall of the year, officially 5" but some places more, other places less. And the air and earth warm enough that the walk and road melted and dried very quickly once they were scraped.
The cats! How short their memories. Rush to the cat hole, poke head out, then paw. Eeuw! Cold! Withdraw paw, back inside hastily. After Larry cleared the walk, then they went out.

Fox squirrel, who is very red at this time of year, came by to see if we had put out nuts for him. We hadn't yet, and he let us know his annoyance with much chatter and waving of the tail. He also speaks to the cats in the same manner. The cats and the squirrels are arch enemies but only verbally, it seems. Funny, after cats I like squirrels best. They scramble through the tree tops like little monkeys.

Here is another picture I took later in the day, of the front tree, undisturbed by cats or squirrels.
