What is rewriting?

Creating fluid prose is not always the job of graphic novel translators. Rewriters adapt translated scripts into English, giving them polish and providing the characters with voices that are not only natural for English readers but also distinctive from each other. Word fit--making sure the dialog fits into the provided space--continuity and other creative details are also the rewriter's responsibility. While rewriters are generally not required to know Japanese, I find my background with the language and society beneficial when interpreting cultural nuances, sound effects and similar script elements.

What have I adapted?

"Grenadier," volumes 1-7

"Vampire Doll: Guilt-na-Zan," volumes 1-5
