Somewhere out West....
This historic ranch with it's blue ribbon trout waters lies nestled
between two spectacular mountain ranges and supports some of the finest
fly-fishing on the North American continent. The ranch, whose exact
location is a closely guarded secret, has quietly played a long and prominent
role in the history of the American West. The first white men to set foot
in the valley were Lewis and Clark who explored this region during their
epic journey of discovery to the Pacific. The uniqueness and extraordinary
beauty of the valley was not lost on them. They chose not to mention it
in their meticulous diaries for fear of over exposure, hoping one day to
return to build a ranch of their own. While it is generally assumed that
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid made their escape from the law in South
America, in actual fact, they quietly returned to the VR to live out the
last of their days, fishing and enjoying the peace and tranquility of our
valley. For a period, the VR was also home to legendary gun fighter turned
law man R.R. Doubleday. Some of the beautiful photographs he took of the
area around the turn of the century can be seen in the main house. Scattered
about the ranch, visitors often find the shards and flint work points of
an ancient people known to have inhabited the area. Many unusual petroglyphs
and caves can also be found by the intrepid hiker. One of the finest known
examples of a completely intact T-Rex was found on ranch property on a
ridge just north of The Fishing Shack and is presently on view at The Smithsonian.
In closing, one of the more pleasing aspects of the VR is that due to it's
location at a high altitude above the snake line.
THERE ARE NO SNAKES AT THE VIRTUAL
RANCH
The VR is rarely disturbed by the outside world,
making it a haven for those in search of escape from the "every
day", the ordinary and routine. No
one who lives here works. Since vast gold and uranium deposits were discovered
on ranch property in the late fall of 1868, the present ranch owner is
now a billionaire many times over - eschewing the exposure and commercialism
of the Forbes 400 list. As if that weren't fortunate enough ... several
years ago, one of our fishing guides, Erich Wilbrecht, made an astounding
discovery while taking out a party of Dutch sailors, finding a bed of first
quality diamonds while sifting through some loose gravel in search of a
tangled fly (Chernobyl Ant). This astonishing discovery only added
to the excess of the VR Trust and has enabled Mr. Wilbrecht to purchase
the town of Jackson Hole, Wyo. and restore it to it's original simple charm
(sans Ralph Lauren clothing outlet) The VR Trust secures the future survival
of the ranch and enables the present day owner to mantain the VR's long
history of land acquisition. We are currently in negotiations with the
governments of Chile and Argentina over the purchase of the Torres Del
Paine National Park and Easter Island. Last years purchase of the
Hebrides provided an added windfall in that we are now the owners and producers
of some of the finest single malt whiskies known to man. Who lives here
now?...well...we can't exactly tell you but there are a few interesting
characters staying down at The Bunk House and the VR flag is flying at
The Main House so The Ministers of Fun must be in residence. The present
owner is believed to be off buying horses in Ireland. Other than that,
we can't tell you much, so hop over the cattle guard and come
on in.
 |
The Main House is open. If you knock and no one answers
we're probably out ice-fishing, the back window in the kitchen is generally
open so climb in, fix yourself something to drink and don't forget to blow
the candle out when you leave. And hey....please be sure to sign the Guest
Book or we might mistake you for some slimey poacher. |
