Stones River Greenway and Percy Priest Lake
We'll bird the first 1.5 mile section of the flat, paved
greenway trail looking for early migrants and winter residents along
the beautiful tree-lined river and adjacent open fields. When we
return we'll scope the lake for loons and other waterfowl from the
dam. This trip will last just the morning. We'll meet at
the Adventure Science Center (800 Fort Negley Blvd. 37203) lower
parking lot (see
map) at
7:00 to carpool. If you want to meet us at the greenway, be
at the parking lot below the dam off of Bell Rd. at 7:45.
April 18 -
Richland Creek Greenway
The
first time NTOS birded this trail was in the fall of 2007 and we said
we wanted to return sometime during spring migration, so now's our
chance. This beautiful greenway follows Richland Creek and McCabe
Golf
Course on a level, paved 1.5 mile trail through woods and open
areas.
We'll meet at the parking lot for the trailhead off of White Bridge Rd.
at 7:00 A.M. From the intersection of Harding Road (i.e. West End
Avenue south of St. Thomas Hospital) and White Bridge Rd. go west on
White Bridge Rd. Just over the bridge, the parking lot is on the
right
and there is a big white sign for Richland Creek Greenway. This
trip
will last just a few hours.
April 25 - University School Wetland and Beaman Park
We'll combine some open marsh and riverside birding with some mature
forest birding for a good cross section of spring migration and
breeders. University School of Nashville has a nice boardwalk
over a marsh off of Briley Pkwy, and a trail running next to the
Cumberland River. After birding there, we'll head over to Beaman
Park and walk its beautiful, shady, creekside trail in search of
Worm-eating, Kentucky, and Yellow-throated warblers, Ovenbird, Northern
Parula, Louisiana Waterthrush, Acadian Flycatcher, and Scarlet Tanager
among many other species. This trip will last just the morning,
but bring a lunch so if we're hungry we can eat at the tables by the
creek. Meet at the Adventure Science Center lower parking
lot (800 Fort Negley Blvd. 37203)(see
map) at 7:00 A.M. and we'll carpool from there.
