The 2003 Season ............

Spring always starts with high excitment and expectations. I added 12 yards of leaf compost to the patches. This stuff is so black that it can still be seen after its tilled in. All the leaves I collected never made it into the patch because of the weather last fall so they went in this spring. Other things added were lime, 10-10-10, Osmocote, calcium nitrate, and Ironite. I would like to think the patch is pumped and ready to grow. The soil looks great all I need now is weather.

May 2003 is not off to the best start. Weather has been very cool so the plants are not growing. I'm making a break with the past and will have only 2 plants. The big change is not in the number of plants but instead with the color. The main patch will host a green one thanks to the generosity of my friend G who provided the seeds. Yes I said seeds. The first 895Hester seed germinated fine but the seedling looks a bit on the wild side and weird. I won't know for a little while so I have started another green seed, thanks again Gman. The other patch will have my own 707. It looks great and is well ahead of the squash.
