THERE WAS SNOW ON THE GROUND, MY "FIRST SNOW" AS WE DIDN'T HAVE SNOW IN SOUTH TEXAS, EVER!!! I HEARD THAT LATER THE USAF MOVED TO THE OLD CANADIAN AFB THAT WAS CROSS TOWN. THEY HAD A HOCKEY RINK THERE ON THE BASE AND ONE SUNDAY, A BUNCH OF WENT OVER TO THECANADIAN SIDE AND ICE SKATED ON THAT RINK. NEVER FELL DOWN ONCE!!! I WAS IN ZWEIBRUCKEN FOR 2 AND A HALF YEARS. THERE WAS A YOUNG MAN FROM MY HOME TOWN THAT WAS STATIONED IN ZWEI ABOUT 10 YEARS AFTER I LEFT T!
HERE. HE WAS WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. I ASKED HIM ONE DAY HOW WERE THINGS BACK AT SUNNY ZWEI. UPON THE HILL?? HE LOOKED AT ME AND SAID "WHAT HILL""?? I SAID UP ON THE "HILL". HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. I SAID TO HIM, IF YOU WERE IN ZWEIBRUCKEN, AND YOU WERE IN THE AIRFORCE, YOU HAD TO HAVE WORKED UP ON THE HILL. HE SAID, "NO", THERE WAS NO HILL, WE HAD A JET RUINWAY ON THE BASE. I SAID, A JET RUNWAY? I TOLD HIM THAT THE ONLY JET RUNWAY WAS THE CANADIAN BASE ACROSS TOWN. HE SAID, "THAT USED TO BE THE CANADIAN BASE, BUT NOW THE U.S. AIRFORCE HAD TAKEN OVER THE CANADIAN BASE WHICH THEN MADE A LOT OF SINCE. I THINK THE BASE IS NOW A MUNICIPAL AIRPORT NOW RUN BY THE CITY OF ZWEIBRUCKEN. WE HAD SOME GOOD TIMES THERE IN SUNNY ZWEI. THE OCTOBER FEST, THE ROSENGARTENS, THE SWIMBAD, AND ALL THE LITTLE BAKERY AND COFFEE SHOPS DOWNTOWN. ME AND MY BUDDIES USED TO WALK DOWN THE HILL INTO TOWN WHICH WAS JUST A FEW BLOCKS AWAY FROM THE BASE. WE WOULD PASS R!
