She handed me a big gray "f" made out of clay and said, "Here--it's

multiplying."

She wanted to know about kinds of math besides arithmetic. I told her

about geometry and now she wants to see its symbols and clamp onto it.

She believes me that math is a language, although she thinks that

algebra is a festive dance. She wouldn't see anything wrong with

flinging math all over the walls, I bet.

I didn't tell her that all that math would scare people. Sometime I'll

tell her that most people are only comfortable with numbers on

magazine covers that say things like "9 Ways to Make Lists That Will

Improve Your List Making."

Another one says things, but she's more likely to put ice in her

clothes to force herself to leap and screech. She did that for a

while, but when she recognized that it was leaving a clammy streak

down the back of her dress, she stripped down and stalked off to find

something other than more clothes.

Another one names everything in two food groups: cheese and bubbles.

She loves to put on big boots so that she can stagger and fall down

and bleed and hate them before she starts to forget and begins to love

them again.

I just took my first Zort and I can see more planets!!!
