I think that it's perfectly clear what was lacking in the life of the

London Fog Terror Squad. As we see among the many valuable

child-rearing lessons of "Strangers on a Train," when bright young men

who are full of morbid preoccupations and violent fantasies are

brought together, only death or a rousing game of tennis can result.

Imagine the release of homosexual tension they would have experienced

if ONLY mom and dad had been forward thinking enough to pay for tennis

lessons. The opportunity to wear stark white shorts alone would have

been enough to brighten their dark outlook. Shouts of LOVE! LOVE!

would almost certainly have given them a legitimate chance to express

their forbidden passion.

Lengthy debates about the location of each others balls, silly

prancing, winning leaps over the net, with a big shared jug of Sunny

Delight afterward and the very idea of donning a trenchcoat would have

seemed just plain silly.
