Lumber Division

TP fills unique niches in the lumber industry. Of the 22 North American agencies currently approved by the American Lumber Standards Committee (ALSC), only TP has comprehensive approvals to provide services for all currently approved softwood and hardwood species, under all seven sets of ALSC approved grade rules. That capability, combined with distinctive human and technical assets in the wood preservation field, give TP a knowledge and service base second to none.

TP has the pleasure of servicing over 300 lumber gradestamping subscribers, whose total 1996 production was about 6.3 billion board feet. TP lumber Subscribers accounted for almost one fifth of the total USA production of lumber reported to the ALSC in 1996, and 35% of the total Southern Yellow Pine.

TP's Lumber Division offers the following services on a national and international basis:

Gradestamping supervisory service for visually graded lumber, machine-stress rated (MSR) lumber, and finger-jointed and laminated lumber.

Grader training, as well as special quality control orientation for personnel other than graders.

Mill surveys, kiln surveys, and technical assistance in planer operations.

Field studies on standard production or on runs of special commodities.

Grademarking, and/or certification of lumber by our own staff at any location.

Reinspections.

Samples of lumber shipments for domestic sales or export at either the point of production or any other location

Inspection of lumber in structures.

Inspection of lumber/timber for bridge construction or in bridges.

Inspection and consultation in cases involving litigation.

Truss inspection and pallet inspection programs.

Heat Treatment/Kiln Drying "Certification" program under the USDA's APHIS Program.
