In the PICU during October 1994

Two major changes in this picture: Will has a trach tube rather than being intubated; and his hand is bandaged. The emboli that broke free from his clotted IV lines lodged in the tips of his right fingers. It was our understanding that this would not cause a problem. However, during the course of the next three months, Will's fingertips whithered, died, and fell off. This was a horribly painful experience for Will, resulting in him being treated with constant doses of narcotics.
