After leaving Johnnie's, we continued to our weekend cabin, appropriately named "The Blue House". The old farmhouse was converted by a local outfitter into a weekend rental. Three bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen and living room, all cooled by very noisy window air conditioners. Vitally important later that weekend were the hot tub on the front porch and satellite television.

First, though, we headed to the river to get out of the 90+ degree heat. Akers Ferry was to be our canoe put-in location. The ferry still operates, although locals with four-wheel-drive vehicles usually drive across for free in the shallow water.
