The following are brief descriptions of research in progress or recently
completed using the BASIS-A Inventory. Typically, there are no reports
available for this research since it is in progress. It may be a while before
any of this research is published or presented at professional meetings. To help
network researchers, TRT Associates will provide your e-mail address, telephone
number, and/or mailing address to the researcher(s) conducting any of the
studies. The researcher(s) below may contact you.
If you are conducting research using the BASIS-A Inventory, the
BASIS-A authors would like to include your research study in this list.
You may send your brief study description through e-mail available on this
Internet page or call or mail it to TRT Associates, Inc.
A study has just been completed which investigated the relationship of the
BASIS-A Inventory to the SASSI which measures tendency for drug
dependency. (Study 102) A major five year study is underway at the Adler School
of Professional Psychology in Chicago, USA. One study is comparing the profiles
of drug dependency clients to non-drug dependency clients on the BASIS-A
Inventory. (Study 103)
A study is nearing completion which relates scores on the BASIS-A
Inventory of managers to subordinates' ratings of manager effectiveness. If a
manager is high on Being Cautious (This scale measures the child's vulnerability
in the family of origin which seems to be associated with trust issues), there
is a tendency to have a low mean score from this person's subordinates on
manager effectiveness. Other BASIS-A scales also are related to manager
effectiveness; in particular the Belonging-Social Interest. (Study 104)
A study is nearing completion using Hierarchical Linear Models (HLM) to
relate BASIS-A scores of teachers to ratings of classroom disruption from
the students in the different classrooms. The second level HLM model for the B
zero term shows that Being Cautious, Taking Charge, and Belonging-Social
Interest are related to classroom disruption. (Study 105)
An investigation is underway relating BASIS-A scores, reports of
diabetic regimen compliance behavior, and health beliefs for over 200 diabetics.
(Study 106)
Data have just been collected on a study of 40 married couples comparing two
groups. Both groups were pretested on the BASIS-A Inventory and a marital
adjustment instrument. Both groups were posttested on the marital adjustment
instrument. One group received information from an Adlerian perspective while
the other group was provided with other readings. (Study 107)
The BASIS-A is being translated into sign language for use with the
deaf. A video is being prepared to administer the BASIS-A Inventory for
the deaf. (Study 108)
The BASIS-A Belonging-Social Interest Scale is being compared with the
Sulliman Scale of Social Interest. Preliminary results indicate that both scales
correlate approximately the same with a variety of scales to measure coping
resources. However, the BASIS-A scale has fewer items and is more
efficient. (Study 109)
Data have been collected and presently are being collected comparing the
BASIS-A Inventory with an attention deficit instrument for college age
students. (Study 110)
