QCWA Peach State Chapter 49 April 2007 Newsletter MEETING NOTICE: SATURDAY April 21, 2007 High Noon Good day/evening all Old Timers. As we are in the middle of the pollen season and everything is yellow, this is the ideal time to get at the antenna problems that surfaced during the winter. Alternately, you can put up that beam or rhombic antenna you always wanted. If your yare is not big enough or a 160m one, you can put one up for 2 meters. So far this year all seems to be going well. i.e. no major tragedies since the last meeting. Hamfest season is upon us and after a warm winter, we could use some out doors activities, other than cutting the grass!! Something good for the spirit??¦ Remember that as we are getting the warm weather, along comes the thunderstorms. Check your grounding, just in case something went awry during the winter. W3BE, John Johnston, the president of QCWA has been scheduled for this meeting. I have as yet to confirm that he will be here however. That is high on the list of things to confirm. We will also need to elect a new Vice President for Chapter 49 QCWA, at this meeting. Our next meeting will be at our usual location, Ryans Restaurant, Norcross, at the usual time 12:00 noon. The restaurant is just west of Peachtree Industrial (141) on Jimmy Carter Blvd (140). The name was changed back to Ryans from Fire Mountain, for reasons best know to the corporate types. Jerry Lofstead W3CDE President February Meeting: Call to order by Jerry at 1311 hrs after a hearty lunch and good discussions. Treasurer reported $539.24 in the bank -- good news! All are encouraged to join the Chapter 49 group at groups.yahoo.com to ease the web based communications needs of the club. John, K7SYS, volunteered to assume responsibility for the newsletter. This was accepted with a huge round of thanks to Bob, W4ZST, who has tireless done this job for some time now. Program: Jerry, W3CDE, led a good discussion on emergency communications preparedness. We discussed Grab and Go capabilities. In going around the room, it seems that our ability to run self-supported ranged from rather crude (ah, that would be me, K7SYS, as I am good until my supply of double A batteries runs out) to Mike, K4HBI, who has enough generators, gasoline, and gel cells to run a small city. Ham radio has done very well in the public service arena of late and with severe weather season about to start emergency communications is a very timely topic for all of us to consider. Silent Key Report: Chapter 49 VP Elliott Kanter W4PGI passed away earlier this year. Chapter 49 has made a donation to the QCWA Memorial Scholarship Fund in his memory. Announcement: The Picnic Meeting has been scheduled for the August 25 meeting. John Benka KF6JG and his wife Gisela have graciously volunteered to host the picnic at their home in Calhoun. Mark your calendars: more details to follow in the next newsletter.
