QCWA Peach State Chapter 49 August 2007 Newsletter MEETING NOTICE: SATURDAY August 25, 2007 High Noon Good day Ladies and Gents, OH!!! IT'S HOT!!! August in Georgia is not supposed to be quite this hot!! Anyway, I do hope everyonehas had a safe summer so far. With all the heat and little rain in the early summer, we have had little worryabout Mother Nature and Lightning. Sure glad of that. As we bounce along the bottom of the solar cycle, there have been some great! Openings to Europe on 6 meters and other assorted places with openingslasting from a few minutes to many hours. This is the time of year for the magic band. When it works, itWORKS!! With little power and a wet noodle... The turnout for Saturday morning 75 Meter nets has beengood and growing. All of us appreciate your support and concern for one another on the net. Some day, Bob K4ZST will have a new QTH somewhere in north Georgia. He has gone from living in the country tobeing in the middle of a subdivision without moving!! Please give John Benka a call and or Email (706-624-0538 or benkajs6@bellsouth.net) to indicate if youwill be attending the annual picnic. He needs to know who is attending and what we need to bring in thefood (yes we eat!) for the QCWA summer affair. It is VERY important that you let him know if you willbe attending. If you have anything that you are shack cleaning or want to give away to a new home, bringit along and it surely will find a new deserving home... The present Mother Nature plans for picnic time isto COOL DOWN!! a bit 8-). You will need to be bringing a chair if you are intending to sit down... I will close for now and look forward to be seeing you at the picnic meeting. Jerry LofsteadW3CDE President June Meeting: Minutes are a bit sparse this go ‘round. Mr. Jerry, W3CDE, was vacationing in KH6 landand your secretary, John, K7SYS, was busy pedaling his bicycle from Columbus, Georgia, to Savannah. It was 105 degrees on the road the second day leading me to wish I was back with you all at Ryan’s enjoyingsome ham radio talk and good food. Dave Bruse, W4DTR, reminds us to say “hello” to our three newmembers, Brian Page, N4TRB, Mack McCormick, WB4MAK, and Marvin Moss, W4UXJ. Please remember the Wednesday night nets on the MATPARC repeater (145.410 - ). Checkins have been a bit on the slim side. For those of you who like awards, this is a good place to get a jump on the QCWA 60-60operating award. Program: Susan, KF4FO, our interim program chairperson arranged for the speaker, and by all reports theprogram was most interesting. As Jerry noted in the last newsletter, I wish I could have been there. As a kid growing up in Seattle, my dream was to become a radio operator on one of the many ships leaving theport everyday for parts unknown. As it turned out, amateur radio got me around the world without theperils of the sea. Silent Key Report: No report. Reminder: The Picnic Meeting has been scheduled for the August 25 meeting. John Benka KF6JG and his wife Gisela have graciously volunteered to host the picnic at their home in Calhoun. Please mark yourcalendars and we will see you there. Forget the Yahoo Groups messages of the next meeting at Ryan’s – there is a meeting but we are going to KF6JG’s QTH. 73’s John Kludt K7SYS QCWA PEACH STATE CHAPTER 49 Web address: www.qcwa49.org 2006-2007 CHAPTER OFFICERS President Jerry Lofstead W3CDE 770-979-5500 w3cde@arrl.netVice President Mike Swiderski K4HBI 770-449-0369 k4hbi@arrl.netSecretary John Kludt K7SYS 770.891.8091 johnnykludt@earthlink.net Treasurer David Bruse W4DTR 770-623-0149 w4dtr@arrl.netExecutive Committee: Frankie Womack W4BJT 404-767-5382 w4bjt@mindspring.com Sandy Donahue W4RU w4ru@arrl.org Net Manager Jerry W3CDE using the K4VN Chapter 49 Club Call: Chapter 49 QCWA VHF Net Wednesday 2000 145.410-MHz ( MATPARC repeater) Chapter 49 QCWA HF Net Saturday 0900 3.8575 Mhz.
